NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 2GB Review Comment Thread

Nvidia's GK104 is a good chip for gaming. When HD 7970 and GTX 680 are both overclocked the HD 7970 will win more games than lose, especially when you look at the most demanding games which struggle to hit 50 fps at 2560 x 1600 maxed out

That part is especially funny.... um care to read the msi 7970 lightning review? course not so you wouldnt know that it can barely pull a lead over a REFERENCE 680 at those resolutions you said?

the GTX680 was running at 1000MHz, not 1100MHz "Turbo"
Are you denying Turbo Boost feature in GTX 680 ?

the review shows two different GTX 680 cards have different Turbo boost. the better sample is boosting to 1110 Mhz. Press samples of GTX 680 cards can definitely be hand picked to give the best turbo boost.

HD 7970 OC (950) - 40 fps
HD 7970 OC at 1050 Mhz should get you to GTX 680 performance. Such a speed is easily available by using AMD CCC. So I see clock for clock same perf in BF3 and similar clock ceiling range of 1.3 - 1.35 Ghz for both cards. GTX 680 OC should at best tie HD 7970 OC.

If you want a game where GTX 680 is manhandled by the HD 7970.

HD 7970 (1125 Mhz ) - 49
GTX 680 (1137 / 1267 boost ) -41

This is a game which clearly shows Nvidia's regressal from Fermi GF110 to Kepler GK104. GTX 580 beat the HD 6970 by 18%. This is also the same game where GTX 680 improves by just 25% over GTX 580
Also this is the same game where HD 7970 (1125) beats HD 6970 by 70% and GTX 680 by 20%. Metro 2033 with DOF which uses compute shaders and is bandwidth hungry is seriously a showcase for what will happen in future games where the GTX 680 is bandwidth constrained.

You can draw your own conclusions. Every human has his own beliefs, logic and thought process. My opinion is the HD 7970 is being given less credit than what its truly worth. How do games which do more than 60+ fps at 2560 x 1600 maxed out on both HD 7970 OC and GTX 680 OC matter in comparison to the most demanding games which clear push the cards to the limits of their capabilities. In fact a user wouldn't even be able to tell differences between between both cards in a game like Skyrim unless he is told which card is running which system.

There is an explosion of GPGPU enabled apps and nobody understands that the GPU is becoming more and more capable. There was a time when the FPU was a coprocessor in the 386 days. Today we can't even think of the FPU as separate from the CPU. The APUs from AMD have a very powerful GPU capable of accelerating GPGPU enabled apps like Adobe Photoshop, Winzip, Video editing apps and much more in future. The HD 7970's GPGPU performance is radically improved wrt the HD 6000 series generation. They will prove a great work tool in GPGPU enabled apps

All other things equal, you could still never convince me to go back to AMD after all the useless drivers on the 6XXX series cards. You can give their cards all the kudos you want, but that ship sailed for me, and a lot of my friends when we kept having multi-GPU issues and game issues directly related to AMD drivers.

A reference GTX 680 with Turbo boost is doing 1050 - 1100 Mhz. MSI HD 7970 Lightning is at 1070 Mhz. Clock for clock they HD 7970 are GTX 680 are close in BF3. Funny how you chose to neglect the 1280 Mhz scores. maybe this is called perception

Oh you do realize the gtx 670 and 680 can match and beat a 7970 with noticeably less power consumption? hmmm yet another unpaid nugget of info :thumb:

ROFL....yup definitely PAID troll. When in doubt...cover your ass and change the focus of the attack. "Oh its really a great gaming GPU...but who uses their 400 dollar card for gaming?' and "oh its a good gaming gpu BUT only on games that no one plays...all the IMPORTANT games at resolutions few people use show the NV card to be teh suck (but only on obscure websites and not HWC, Anad, Toms...or even NV bashingTweak Town)" yeah that sound sensible. Not. You might want to talk to your marketing manager about getting some BETTER talking points mate as you kinda suck at this "guerrilla marketing" thing. :thumb:

BF3 is similar on HD 7970 and GTX 680 when both are OC'd. I guess for you Alan Wake is a game no one plays because Nvidia does not do well on that. Yeah I get it. Alan Wake for PC released in Feb 2012. On Valve Steam it was a good seller. The game was a critical and retail success. I have played the game on PC. Its a fantastic game with great graphics. Have you played Alan Wake before judging the game ?

Witcher 2, Crysis 2 also don't fit your contrived definition of popular games. I give up . Funny though , both your website and the "obscure" HardWare.fr - Le Guide du HardWare & de l'Optimisation PC have the same 6 games on your chart - BF3, Crysis 2, Witcher 2, Metro 2033, Shogun 2, Batman Arkham city but can come to very different conclusions.

Do you realise the HD 7950 and HD 7970 can compete extremely well with GTX 670 and GTX 680 when all the cards are overclocked to their best

Do you know that there are lots of people who use the GPU for serious GPGPU work or for running GPGPU enabled day to day apps like Adobe Photoshop, video editing software like vReveal etc. Look at Apple's machines. They are very popular because of their video and photo editing software from Apple. Do you want to know how many people take photos and shoot videos and work with them on their PC. I guess the answer to that is very clear from youtube.

If you say something for Nvidia its unpaid objective information. If I say something for AMD its paid nuggets. Way to go fanbois

How much do you get paid to troll like this? Im pretty sure I can be an obtuse dick for money.

How much do you get paid to abuse anybody who does not worship Nvidia

I have been warned already for language. I learnt it the hard way. You would do better to watch your language .

While I'm not on the "this guy is a paid troll bandwagon" what he seems to miss being the largest point of 680's beating the crap out of 7970's was that the price and power points were so much lower on the 680 when the vast majority of these review were done.

Also.. If he cared to read some old reviews he would see that when AMD deserves it they get their Kudo's here.. as does every product I've seen reviewed here..

I've bought and buit a few GPU's and systems based mostly on reviews from here and they have matched so close that I tend to not bother with many of the sites I used to read as they were soo hit and miss you could say anything about any product and get it right more often.

Anyway, not gonna bash the guy for posting questions or criticism BUT he should really research more of your work before trying to point fingers or throw around accusations..
