NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 2GB Review Comment Thread

Anywise... let's move on folks, this is supposed to be a discussion on the GTX 670, not the merits of a different card. While we encourage members to keep us honest, there comes a point where comments that question the integrity of our reviewers go beyond what we're willing to accept. Some of the posts here are getting very close to that line, and thus will result in moderation action being taken if it continues.

I believe the line of questioning our test results has pretty well played out, any further comment on that vein will not be tolerated.

While I'm not on the "this guy is a paid troll bandwagon" what he seems to miss being the largest point of 680's beating the crap out of 7970's was that the price and power points were so much lower on the 680 when the vast majority of these review were done.

Also.. If he cared to read some old reviews he would see that when AMD deserves it they get their Kudo's here.. as does every product I've seen reviewed here..

I've bought and buit a few GPU's and systems based mostly on reviews from here and they have matched so close that I tend to not bother with many of the sites I used to read as they were soo hit and miss you could say anything about any product and get it right more often.

Anyway, not gonna bash the guy for posting questions or criticism BUT he should really research more of your work before trying to point fingers or throw around accusations..

I have looked at hardocp and they have a good way of benchmarking with fraps recording gameplay sequences. Their BF3 results are much closer than what I see here. They do a benchmark of "Operation Swordbreaker" which is the most difficult level in the game

HARDOCP - Battlefield 3 - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 Video Card Review

"BF3 performed extremely well on the GeForce GTX 670 all the way up to 2560x1600. At 2560x1600 we were able to have all the in-game quality options set to "Ultra" plus HBAO. We found FXAA provided the best image quality plus performance. However, we did push it up to 2X AA plus FXAA and performance was right on the border of being playable. Some may find that level playable, and it's impressive that a $399 video card could even achieve that setting at 2560x1600."

HARDOCP - Battlefield 3 - Sapphire HD 7970 OC Edition Video Card Review

The Out-of-Box Sapphire HD 7970 OC Edition averaged 47.3 FPS at 2560x1600 with 2X MSAA and FXAA High enabled with all other graphics options selected on the highest setting. The reference Radeon HD 7970 averaged 47 FPS at these settings, while the GeForce GTX 680 averaged 49.4 FPS. We were unable to increase AA on these three video cards to 4X MSAA because framerates dropped too low during combat creating a noticeable lag.

Here I see a completely opposite view with the GTX 670 shown clearly exceeding the HD 7970 at 2560 x 1600 Ultra 4X MSAA. And guess what legitreviews, hardocp, pcper have similar views. The GTX 680 leads a ref HD 7970 at 925 Mhz slightly at 2560 x 1600 Ultra 4X MSAA but the HD 7970 and GTX 680 are similar perf at similar clocks.

Here is Eyefinity benchmarks of BF3 (gameplay sequences)

And here I see a GTX 670 defeating a HD 7970 in Eyefinity easily. It baffles me.

Is benchmarking truly a science or art ? What is the point of these benchmarks if there can be so much differences between one site and the rest ? Users who have had both cards from hardocp forums like
Drangueos and xoleras say the HD 7970 OC'd ties GTX 680 OC'd at 2560 x 1600 and goes ahead at 5760 x 1080

[H]ard|Forum - View Single Post - Can a single 7970 run BF3 at 5760x1080?

As for the price argument that has subsided after AMD cut prices on HD 7970 to USD 479 and the HD 7950 to USD 399. Its a mere reflection that competition has increased when compared to the situation prior to GTX 680 release where Nvidia GTX 580 was at USD 499.

I'd wish for a new VooDoo 7 but sadly 3dfx is gone and all their graphics assets now belong to nVidia (where they got SLI).

Now where did I put my Matrox 650 ...

You keep glossing over the fact that A) this is a comment thread for the 670...not 680 and b) you are cherry picking your data to fit your world view....and it is very sad that you have to look so bloody hard to even find any data that even remotely supports your bias.

There is no conspiracy, the fact is that the majority of the time at the MAJORITY OF RESOLUTIONS on the MAJORITY OF REVIEW SITES the 6 series kicks the snot out of the AMD 7 series.

Such is life and unless you made the bloody thing...get over it. AMD will probably come back with an even better card NEXT generation (or not) there is no "team green vs team red" here (unless you are a paid troll that is). It is debatable on whether the tech of the NV is better than the AMD or its drivers that are holding AMD back...but it doesnt matter as at the end of the day a NV 670 can hold its own against AMD's top dog.

My suggestion is A) get a better job as being a paid troll aint worth the negative karma and b) go outside and enjoy REAL 3D. Personally Im going to the range and putting about 300 rounds of lead down range. :thumb:

BF3 is similar on HD 7970 and GTX 680 when both are OC'd. I guess for you Alan Wake is a game no one plays because Nvidia does not do well on that. Yeah I get it. Alan Wake for PC released in Feb 2012. On Valve Steam it was a good seller. The game was a critical and retail success. I have played the game on PC. Its a fantastic game with great graphics. Have you played Alan Wake before judging the game ?

Witcher 2, Crysis 2 also don't fit your contrived definition of popular games. I give up . Funny though , both your website and the "obscure" HardWare.fr - Le Guide du HardWare & de l'Optimisation PC have the same 6 games on your chart - BF3, Crysis 2, Witcher 2, Metro 2033, Shogun 2, Batman Arkham city but can come to very different conclusions.

Damn I wish I had your budget! Do you know what .45 ACP costs these days?

what are the odds of seeing single slot solutions for these cards? I love the uber short pcb , reminiscent of the old days when gpu's played backseat to the rest of the system.

You talk about karma to me a Indian Hindu Brahmin. I know my religion and my philosophy. FYI the concept of nishkam karma is work with complete devotion but without attachment to results or material gains. The more the attachment with results the more the pain/pleasure and more easily the person can waver or lose composure when faced with significant hurdles. You can conquer karma with this concept - which means nothing will affect you . Its very easy to talk but impossible for ordinary people to achieve. So lets leave it there.

"6 series kicks the snot out of the AMD 7 series." There can't be something further from the truth. People who have had both the cards and overclocked them have given their opinions. The HD 7970 competes very well with the GTX 680. Especially when you consider overclocking both the cards. They are not running a business like you do. Yours is a business. Any business will have its own business interests to protect. We don't know your website's relationship with Nvidia.
Everything what you say has an extreme tone to it. There doesn't seem to be an objective tone at all. Hardly befitting a tech product reviewer. And the worst part is you are calling me a paid troll. You have got down to that level because you don't have a hold of your emotions. You see there is enough evidence I have shown from other websites that its not all objective here. Thats what got you irritated. Anyway I will leave it at this. If your administrators want to ban me thats fine. They couldn't enforce their rules on you who is an employee of their website. Speaks a lot about objectivity.

Jesus man would you give it up already. You come in to this site and spend pretty much all of your 12 posts bashing a site that's known everywhere for their non biased reviews and you wonder why you are being called a paid troll. Frankly they have been very nice about this and I wouldn't blink twice if they decided to ban you. You are no longer bringing anything new to the table and refuse to listen to anything anyone else has to say. So please troll somewhere else.

135 bucks per 1K of 230 grain'ers. You need to reload mate....havent bought ammo in years.

@ the great ragu spaghetti sauce...I wasnt the one cursing and swearing earlier in the thread now was I? You were, and the mods had to spank you for it....and edit your post. :thumb:

Objectively speaking...you are a troll or a paid fanboi. So get a life. Seriously...get a life and find a better company to work for.
