Finally managed to kill him.

So...... is that essentially the end of the campaign, or are these maps considered part of the campaign? (Sounds like a full second run through is expected for true end-game?)

edit: This really looks like it's the start of the loot hunt. (Kind of like how The Last Epoch's main campaign abruptly ends).

That's the end of the campaign for now. There's no second play through of the acts anymore. The mapping system is the 'end game' for PoE2. Although its not considered end game until you're well in to T15 maps. The goal is to get to pinnacle boss content, which comes (partly) from farming shards from the different map types.
