Some boards like the standard ATX size ASUS Z8NA have them lined up. I prefer them offset - especially with air cooling. If venting out the back, I like the sockets offset so one fan doesn't blow hot air directly in the other (for tower / heatpipe style coolers)

I see what you mean by having them offset. I'm a person who likes everything to line up, and the off-set idea would bother the hell out of me :haha:

I posted earlier that this board can run a single i7, but required compatible xeons in order to run 2 procs. I had read this elsewhere prior to passing it along, unfortunately, it was inaccurate. If you want to run a single chip in this board, it must be a 55xx or 56xx series xeon.

I apologize for the confusion and misinformation. I editted my old responses accordingly, and promise to double check my sources more carefully in the future.

Yeah, I picked up the x5650 last week... they are the least expensive 6-core Xeons I could find... the x5680 was tempting, but they are $2000 a pop by the time they get to my door -- just not worth it. Will post updated pics and dry run testing later this week.

Considering I'll be pushing ~20000 World Community Grid points a day, I hope part of the community that eventually finds a cure for Cancer, AIDS, etc. unk:

For those who've PMed me about the dual PSU setup, I hope this quick walk-through helps. Again, my apologies, I'm kinda busy as a full time worker and a full time student so I don't dedicate much time to building fancy worklogs :sad:

For those looking for a "simpler", messy solution, have a look at these:

I went with a dual Silverstone Strider ST1000F 1000 Watt setup, and simply spliced the PS_ON cable (the green one) and a ground (any of the black cables). This will allow for both PSUs to turn on/off when I hit the power button.

Here are pics of my setup... this picture is the 20pin portion that connects to the motherboard. I spliced the cable here so I can run it to both PSUs, the third cable from the bottom is the GRD (one of several black, ground cables) and the fourth from the bottom is the PS_ON cable (green). Granted, there are some PSUs that run only black cables, for those, you can reference the manual to ensure you know exactly which is the PS_ON and GRD cables.

This picture shows both 24 pin cables that run back to the PSUs.

And this final pic shows the entire sleeving/wiring harness.

I'm actually looking at upgrading to a similar setup, with the 5650's.. I was looking at a lot of different dual 1366 boards, the only one that seems to overclock is the SV-2. I am hesitent on pulling the trigger on that though.. I might get a second 480sc first, and a pair of sandforce 60 or 120 gig ssds.
That, and the entire "finding a case to put that huge motherboard in" + watercooling.
