Rants etc.....

Bell Fibe TV.

Goes into standby mode if you don't use the remote after a period of time, and no way to disable it or to change the time interval (the standby can be changed on their satellite tv, but not Fibe).

Watched the Jays game, and watched the NY and CLE extra innings after...f***ing Fibe went into standby in the 15th inning, and when I get the set back on the game is over.

Think of the positive though, you got to watch less baseball :haha:

There has to be something,or maybe not for consumer models, as I've been at places out here (bars/restaurants) who have fibre TV and I've never seen a box time out like that.

I don't suppose you know what the time interval is on this?

We're booked to switch over to fibreOP at the end of the month, but I know my better half absolutely hates this "feature" when it comes up on the TV in her work Staff Room. It might end up being a deal breaker.

I think it comes down to personal usage. In our household the TV often gets used as background (news / weather / etc.... ) so it very much might end up timing out since there's no input from a user. It would never happen in my case since I'm an anti-ad channel surfer who doesn't sit on any channel while ads are being shown, but my better half often has it on while she's doing other things. :)

i have fibre tv as well both upstairs and down and all 3 bedrooms and never had any thing time out :)

If you have Bell Fibe and you do not use the remote after a period of time (4 hours) I assure you that it will time out. I called Bell technical support last fall when I missed a shootout goal because of this, and was told it was a power saving feature that is not adjustable (Bell-disabled). I suspect its more about limiting the traffic on their network.

Doing something as simple accessing the guide or changing the channel will reset the clock.

Yep its a personal usage thing. Searching the internet will yield such options as having a smart remote adjust something every 3 hours or so, etc.

I will call Bell again and complain. Last fall the tech support person assured me there was no way to change it for Bell Fibe users (only for Bell satellite boxes). I went through the menu again last night and still no option, but maybe another complaint is the way to go.

BTW last fall I think I found a thread where it WAS possible for Bell to change your settings on their end for commercial users (ie a bar/restaurant, etc). They do have the ability to do it but choose not to as per policy, which I think is guided more along the need to avoid waste of bandwidth/traffic on the Fibe network.

Oh there's no doubt in my mind that it's a bandwidth thing, but if it's at least 4 hours that's not too bad.

If there's a way to do it for commercial settings, there's also a good chance that they might be able to set it from their end since I doubt they have different hardware for commercial/home use.
