Rants etc.....

So it seems the last bad thing to happen this year was my wife's uncle dying. He has been in a care home and very sick for many years, so it wasn't really a surprise, but it wasn't expected. It still sucks. He was a nice guy. I was tasked with removing all his tech gear from the home and either keeping it for myself or giving it to family and friends.

I'm giving the Amazon Fire tablet to my ex-wife's kid. TV, not sure who wants or gets that and his PC, which no one needs, so I guess I am keeping it.

So I will be taking his cpu and using it to upgrade my HTPC from a 3900x to a 5900x (as long as I dont have to redo my windows activation), after all of that, I still end up with 3 whole PC's, so I think one is going to a friend of mine who is broke but needs a PC, he's getting the R7 1700x just not sure what OS, then I will have a R9 3900x and 5600x all with 16-32gb ram + NVME boot drives, not sure what to do with the last 2.

The crazy thing is, when they moved his stuff from his room after passing, someone dropped his PC down some stairs, which broke 2 fans and beat the case up. Somehow, everything else made it out just fine

Well I guess this Amazon package isn't showing up?

The status yesterday was along the lines of "check back on Dec 23 and if you haven't got it, you can get a refund", now today its "unfortunately a problem occurred during shipping"

Looks like it's returned to Alberta lol

Bathtub/surrounds caulking......

It doesn't take all that long to do, but I dunno why but it's one of my least favorite household maintenance chores.

My better half hates the look of the one-piece bath fitter enclosures, but damn.... I'd live with the look just to get away from having to do caulking..... :)

Not a nice addition to the Christmas season! You're okay though?
I'm not in a cast or hospital but I'm in a surprising amount of pain in spots. Even had an x-ray and ultrasound to double check a few things, even sent me home with a BP monitor as it is still higher than normal. Told to limit screen time as much as possible (means don't go to work) but just had to submit the dashcam video and stuff to the insurance company so at my desk for a few minutes.

I feel super guilty right now after the dump of snow we had. The one neighbor has a permanent back injury and his oldest on light snow falls will quickly shovel my front walk and the elderly neighbor on my opposite side. Sometimes she beats me to it, sometimes I beat them to it but between the two of us we stay on top of the lighter stuff across the 3 houses. These heavier snowfalls I usually pull out the monster of a snowblower I have and I'll clear all 3 properties including driveways and with the way I hurt I can't operate that thing. It is a bit of a beast but it devours snow like this as long as the bolts are not breaking on me (why i drilled them out for larger bolts just before the winter). Have not mentioned what happened to them yet because I know they will go out there and try to man handle it.

BIL will swing by tomorrow and fire up the snow blower and clear stuff though.

Silicone remover works really good to aid in removing the old stuff. Cut out the big stuff then use the remover.

Silicone remover eh, thanks, never heard about this. I battle with a razor blade for hrs on end lol

I've got a plastic removal tool (scraper on one end, v-shaped groove on the other) which seems to work well enough when paired with a scribe for digging the deep pieces out. I've also recently grabbed one of the amazon plastic razor thingies which works wonders for removing the excess.

Ya, I have that tool. I find it easier to score/cut along the top/bottom with a razor blade, then use that tool to dig out what I can, but then spend hrs getting the leftover out. So, I'm going to look into this silicone remover to see if it can reduce that time. Luckily for me, I only have about 2 days of this every year around my house. One of these guys is what you're talking about, I think.

Plus I use this guy too.

Holy shit what's fuck around. So we got winter tires and rims put on at the Toyota dealership when my wife got her new car last year. The tires suck, she went off the road in not terrible conditions, car took zero damage fortunately.

Wife essays fuck that I want the same tires as the last car, x-ice Michelins. She orders the tires based off the spec of the car. Little did we know they put 17's on the winter rims, didn't say shit, and didn't think to check, why would I. Spec is 18".

Apparently Toyota doesn't make steel rims in 18". So I'm already there for the appointment and get the bad news 10 minutes later. All X-ice l, including 17", are out of stock and weeks away. Fuck...

Order new rims (alloy) and 1 week later finally get 18" rims. Tires are on but what a complete waste of my time.
