Rants etc.....

Was in Save on Foods. Checkout was crowded. An old lady (late 70s early 80s) was right behind me. She was kind of trapped behind the shopping cart and she had some groceries in the front.

I ask her if she’d like some help putting her groceries on the belt.

She looks at me and says “NO, I DONT NEED YOUR HELP!” Loudly. And then she says “I’ll do what I need to do and you do what you need to do!” angrily.

Im still in shock. Lol

Not a fragile flower yet apparently!

I understand her need to feel independent, but one day there will be a elderly person who does need help, will I still be willing? This is the problem.
I think you would be :) If you wouldn't be, you likely wouldn't have asked her if she needed help in the first place.

I still open or hold doors for women, even if there are 5% (gross guess) who tell me off from time-to-time. It's still just the right thing to do imo.

One time I held the door for a woman and she proceeded to tell me off... but my wife was with me. My wife went up one side of that lady and down the other, basically "explaining" to her that she needed to get over herself lol That was fun ;) My wife is a very accomplished person in many ways, including her career, but she still appreciates courtesy.

This is exactly the moment you can call a woman the C word and not feel guilty.

I find that in many cases it could be a few different things most commonly is frustration of having to stand there but could be she is in pain and also frustrated and or just having a bad day, when people are like that with me I just smile and say something like well I hope your day gets better and then let it go .
in other cases its something like I have opened a door for a woman and she gets snarky and I just say the same thign lol its a mild conundrum of dammed if you do dammed if you don't, I rather be nice and helpful the more people get courteous the better life is less stress

Nah fuck that. The woman is old enough to respect a gentleman's offer. I offer to help people with stuff all the time and do not typically get that sort of response.

Swilson is probably correct about the dementia.
