My 5 port Netgear switch shit the bed during a mad storm. Kinda weird since it's plugged into my cyber power.

Just a standard 1G switch? If you're interested I've got an 8 port trendnet collecting dust that you could have for the price of a CP pre-paid box.

edit: Heh.... looking at amazon maybe that's not much of an offer.... CP would be $20, you can order a new 5 port for under $25. :)

I was kinda thinkin of doin ubiquity like you and a few others here.

Heh. Yeh it's not cheap. Was thinking a couple 5 port POE switches with a main switch somewhere. All wired. I don't need their wireless stuff.
You say that now then suddenly you have WIFI 7 stuff about but no WIFI 7 AP. Then maybe you want a security camera since there is no monthly subscriptions (most recent update to Unifi Protect allows 3rd party cameras now). But without the monthly subscription you replace the ring doorbell if you have one etc.

Yeah, there's a chance, but assume there's probably not a lot of oil & gas HR types combing our rants thread. I wouldn't post it on linkedin, but I'm not too worried about here. After all, they should genuinely be pretty ashamed.
Do you have a breach of contract clause in here? Loss of wages sounds like you have grounds, and over a month of lost work is probably worth talking to an employment lawyer about. Especially if you have concrete times of them fucking you off from start dates.

I can direct you to a Edmonton-local friend of a friend that deals with this kinda stuff if you want.

It's probably a big maybe on that. Because I'm a subcontractor it's a lot less protected in Alberta than if I had been salary or a wage employee. I considered it but my reading of the contract doesn't have any obvious breach clauses outside of my termination of contract due to fraud or similar issues (and all worded on the company's behalf).

I'd definitely kill any potential work down the road and word of mouth in Alberta energy would mean I'd likely be killing my career with the owner/operators for about a month's wages at best so it's likely not worth it.

If I change my mind I'll take you up on the referral though, and thanks.

So spent a bunc of time trying to get 10G working on my desktop again. Swapping out modules even ebayed a $20 NIC to ensure it wasn't just an Intel issue. Then realized tonight that the link I setup to the UNVR actually only established 1G link as well. Searching for posts with the model number of the modules turns out I'm not the only one with ubiquiti hardware having issues with these specific ones.

Now need to track down new modules that will work properly 😞
