discussion Recomendation on DDR2-800MHz 2GB set

When it comes to memory I don't know a lot about timings and such but what I'm guessing is the lower the number the faster the memory? I know to look for memory with D9 Micron.

I see timings like 4-4-4-10, 4-4-4-12, 5-5-5-15 and 4-4-3-5? So which is better?

Next is what brand? I'm up in there air with choosing between OCZ, G Skill, and Team Group. I was even looking at Buffalo Firestix but those are hard to find.

The lower timings are better- here's an AMD Guide to memory timings and here's a guide from Tom's about tradeoffs between memory timings and frequency.

My picks right now are:

- Patriot Extreme Performance 6400 5-5-4-9-@800MHz- $251 after rebate-- a good overclcocking ram and well reviewed with a good price http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=21780&vpn=PDC22G6400ELK&manufacture=Patriot

-Team Xtreem Dark series 6400 4-4-4-12 @800MHz -$265- more money but it has been known to oc at 5-5-5-8 @ 1160 by one reviewer - amazing!

Just be sure to check for compatibility with your motherboard when choosing ram.

I'm really liking these Buffalo FireStix, they are compatible with the mobo I'm getting and their timings are good 4-4-4, they are $189.99 USD at newegg which works out to $211.79 CDN. Now only if NCIX can get them in stock.

Plus I'm going with this whole red theme inside my case and they will match perfectly

Also- the D-9 thing is a good rule of thumb, but lots of non-d9 stuff is performing very well lately (and some d-9 is frying or DOA)

Well I placed a call to Buffalo Technologies and was greated by a very helpful Sales Rep. They informed me while they do not have any resellers in Canada they themselves sell and ship to Canada. Their price for the FireStix PC2-6400 DDR2-800MHz is $188.35 USD.

So the Sales Rep informed me that because since it is an International order they overnight it by FedEx and it is gauranteed to arrive the next day by 3:00pm. The shipping charge is $23 USD or I can get it by the next morning for $25 USD.

So pricing it all out and coverting it over to CDN with shipping it works out to $235.60 CDN. Not bad at all. So at that price I went ahead an ordered it online. So I should have it by tomorrow at 3pm. I can't wait.

This Memory also comes with a lifetime warranty. And if you have to RMA it you will have a new product by the next day.
