Recommended O-rings for mechanical keyboards?

I bought some of those @SugarJ and gave them a go.

It was a mind-numbing hour, and I think I found a whole other cat living in my keyboard :) but I have to say it was worth it! I am actually a little surprised at how noticeable the difference is. I like the slight rubbery bump at the bottom, and it makes the keys feel heavier in a way. Deadens the sound a bit too, I think more of a "thwonk" as they say, although I never minded the sound.

Anyway, thanks! I am pleased!

Glad it worked out for you. I used those on the first board I had with red switches before I switched to browns.

I added them to browns. It isn't necessarily better, but it is an interesting change... and cheaper to get a change with some rings rather than a new keyboard! 😁

I think my DeCK 75% is too old for o-rings. Tried the "Glorious" G40-Thins from PcMasterRace and couldn't really feel any sort of difference after a short while. Just put on the G40-Thicks and it still seems like they're sliding way up, too high into the key cap to be noticed. I'm thinking my caps were made before there were any kind of standards for these things... but just to be sure, someone with a modern mech keyboard compare your key caps to this:

The "shaft" that holds the key caps goes the full length of the cap and I believe is part of the plastic that is exposed to form the letters. Is that what every mech keyboard has?

I've never used kb o-rings, but by design shouldn't they be on the switch post (as opposed to the keycap shaft) so that the bottom of the keycap shaft hits it when it bottoms out?

From looking around online it seems my keycaps are taller than standard? That would explain why the orings just slide to the top of the cap and doesn't affect things much

They do appear a bit longer, but not by much. (see mine below from a Corsair K70 Rapidfire) Have you tried doubling them up? Also, check out WASD Keyboards O-rings. They're available on their website and Amazon. I have a set of the blues for one of my keyboards and I'm thinking about another set.

No, they go on the keycap and bottom out against the switch base.

Typically people say to leave them towards the end of the keycap shaft, but when I do that some of them end up rolling up and some don't, making the experience a bit uneven. So I roll mine down, although doubling them makes a huge difference.

That bracing may be the bigger issue. Definitely try doubling or even tripling them up. See what works for you. Different brands of O rings come in different thicknesses as well, which makes a large difference.
