Samsung 990 Pro SSDs Report Rapid Health Degradation

xentr_thread_starter
According to Tom's there's a firmware patch out which resolves the issue. (Question is.... does it really resolve the underlying issue, or just tweak the reporting ??? ;) ).
I see an article on a firmware for the 980 pro, but not the 990 pro. Can you link it?

Sorry, you're right. The article I saw this morning was probably the same one you've seen WRT the 980 pro and I assumed it was a blanket fix for the issues they've been having...

New article out now for the 990 Pro. New firmware fixes the issue (supposedly), but the wear already on the drives is what it is.

And is RMA'ing to Samsung still a tough road in Canada as we used to say it was? That's a bad situation for expensive drives. I believe @crazyea you already got ride of yours?

Just realized I've got a 980 non-pro sitting in a box for another build. I haven't seen the non-pros mentioned though, so I'm assuming it's fine? Probably.

It's funny tho. When I google "best m.2 drive" the 990 comes up 1st everytime.
Well, I guess it is still the best, or one of the best performance-wise? And I did read they put out a fix for this issue: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-990-pro-firmware-update-released-ssd-health .

However, that fix apparently stops the degradation but doesn't reset the SMART values of the current degradation. That leaves it a little unclear to me if the degradation is real, or just numbers? One idea in that article says it could be real if they couldn't fix it with the firmware update and just reset the values.

Maybe we said this all already... I'm having forum deja-vu :)

I believe the wear is real...from what I remember.
