I know in the past, and in other threads, we've talked about Canadian warranty issues both good and bad. However, I thought this warranted (ha!) its own thread, because in the last several weeks I've seen multiple issues with Canadians getting screwed trying to get warranty support from Samsung.

For example: this Reddit thread put up today.

That being said: If you have warranty issues with Samsung Storage do not go through Samsung to get results. Samsungs north american storage branch warranty/service is handled by Total Tech Solutions not Samsung at all. I'm unsure at this time if this covers other samsung products such as phones.

I did a search on the forum and didnt find much about this, so I'm creating this thread in the hopes of alleviating frustration from any of our members in the future, because apparently even samsung support doesnt know how to direct canadian customers towards proper support...

Judging by comments in those threads on what Samsung's CSRs have said... pretty much any Samsung Storage product. It sounds like Samsung Canada doesn't officially sell storage products in Canada, so any products being made available here are grey market intended for the US, and Samsung Canada doesn't support the warranty.

Frankly, I don't see how it's legal to sell the products here in Canada if the Warranty claims written on the packaging aren't legit.

The general consensus is that it is NOT legal, and samsung is just ignoring the fact they're in the wrong and no one is doing anything about it. :blarg:

...but Samsung doesn't sell SSD's in Canada, so they are doing nothing wrong. It would be the retailer in the wrong here as they are selling products not destined for the Canadian market. (is Samsung hiring? I can say this all day :haha:)

Samsung's mechanical drives are sold and warrantied by Seagate. So only SSDs and optical drives are done by Samsung. Which you use 'Total Tech Solutions' to warranty in Canada according to the other old thread.

That's fine for as long as that third party company is contracted to do RMAs and seems willing to bend the rules. What's going to happen when/if TTS loses the contract? What about folks who don't know enough to find that contact information on their own?

The issue here is that Samsung Canada's CSR appears to not have any idea what they're doing when it comes to SSDs, and it's not like that's a new thing.... these are exactly the same issues/responses folks had back when Samsung initially sold off their Mechanical HDD division.

In fact, if you go back through HWC's Samsung review comments you'll see AkG was told that they'd get back to him with a clear Canadian RMA policy/position.... we're still waiting on that, and I've got a sneaking suspicion that might very well be part of the reason we're on their blacklist when it comes to review samples.

Edit... Heh... looking through that older HWC thread, I see it was in there that AkG made reference to expecting new information that never appeared to show up.

"Samsung SSDs don't officially sell in the Canadian market" was a nice excuse back when they had no SSDs listed on the Samsung Canada site and only NCIX was really selling them.

Now with their SSD product stack on the Canadian Samsung site and online giants like newegg.ca and amazon.ca selling their products, the excuse has worn rather thin.

I wasn't aware that Samsung SSDs were considered grey market here.

No way in heck (excuse the language) will I be touching their products until this changes. Samsung are screwing up my wife's S7 repair too (on our 6th RMA since November, now they are saying our warranty is done....) But thats a different thread, bit not a good look for Samsung in general IMO.
