The RX 9000 series thread

So weird that people are so excited about a card that performs worse than their last flagship but with better ai tech gumbo 😂

Well, if you were still running an older AMD GPU, and were looking to upgrade, AND the price of this one is lower it would be attractive.

I'll be sticking with my 7900 XT for the foreseeable future I'd say :)

I think it says more about how bad nvidia is treating the market as well. There's no reasonable priced decent performing gpus atm.

I think the excitement is wholly on the potential of better FPS/$...the thing that has been absent from GPU generations lately. Pricing will either make these great or just another number in a chart...IMO

ummm...the 9070 is the high mid end...so the fact it's as fast or a bit faster than high high end of the last gen makes sense. however, after the boats of beating a 4090 at something, this is disappointing. :(

I was disappointed when AMD said they were dropping competing at the top tier GPU level. BUT, if they do put something out with very good mid or upper mid current gen performance at a more consumer friendly price that would be awesome.

I still wonder why would they do that? The price I mean. They would have to gamble that enough people would buy their cards because they are cheaper even though NVIDIA beats them in performance and let's be honest, AI tech gumbo at @Jokester said :) They'll have to be confident enough that the lower performance doesn't just make them irrelevant.

I would say though there are still a lot of gamers out there running a couple generations or more old GPUs (I was one for a long time) that would be attracted to the lower price tag. I mean I was attracted to the sale price of the 7900 XT when I bought. I knew it was never going to give me ray tracing performance or whatever, but I didn't care for the upgrade it did give me at the price I was willing to pay.

I've personally never focused too much attention on the top tier as it has traditionally been way out of my price bracket, although I did step well outside of my price comfort zone when I grabbed the XTX.

I'd much rather see AMD focus on high-midrange cards at regular joe affordable prices.

It really may be the smarter move for them really. If they aren't able to compete with NVIDIA at the nose-bleed level they are better off beating out, perhaps Intel for example, at the regular joe level as you said.

@Lysrin the 5090 will be their biggest money maker, but their meat and potatoes comes from their mid range cards...so if AMD can provide a solid value proposition, they could potentially gain some market share.

AMD could also decimate its competition with their mobile APU if they can get the price down and connect it to CPU's the masses buy. if done right, they would be able to capture entry to mid-level gamers too. heck, they should make the desktop APU out of these too!
