the 'Stuff That's Just Really Interesting 'thread

I didn't know that much about this until I heard about the launch this morning (now scrubbed for today unfortunately).

No people on this launch, but Artemis II in a couple years that will go beyond the Moon as I understand, is planned to have a Canadian Astronaut on board and that crew will go farther into space that any human ever has!

When they get past the Moon, is that when we meet the Vulcans or the Transformers...? I've lost track...
I thought the Chinese already went to the dark side of the Moon and can't find any Transformers. Vulcans only shows up when they detect a warp signature.

I'm thinking this is cool and forward thinking and needed!

I do wonder what impacts it has on the aquatic life and health of the river. Also it seems like preventing evaporation is going to lead to longer droughts as there will be less moisture in the air to form clouds.

Though I suppose these are all man made canals but is that why they are in this predicament to begin with...some places just aren't meant to be lived in or farmed :)

Valid points but yeah I don't think the canals are holding much in the way of living creatures.
Curious if and when huge desalination plants will start pumping up into the Sierra mountains to keep a water cycle going for them there parts?

I think water canals don't have a lot of life outside of microbes in them. They're not very deep and usually cement or mortar lined which doesn't allow for weeds or other aquatic flora that's necessary for life. Nothing that would really harm the already heavily altered ecosystem in California farm country.

As for rain, maybe. I'd guess that the amount of rainfall due to canal evaporation is negligible. In California I suspect it's overwhelmingly clouds blowing in from the ocean mixed with a little inland evaporation. Given California's fairly strict environmental regulations I doubt that they'd allow this if there was much effect.
