The 'What are you watching' Thread

They basically had no idea what they were doing, tried to make it Melrose Place in Space with an actress that couldn't act her way out of a paper bag (a scene with bio disinfectant gel comes to mind among many others), then at the very end realized oh fudge we're hemorrhaging ratings, let's try to do a DS9 style war arc (Xindi goodness), but didn't quite pull it off.

It was such a waste for the exact reason they had so much material and some fine actors. I mean T'Pol was irredeemable, but as bad as Merryweather was he got a lot better, Phlox, Malcolm, and Yoshi were wonderful. Bakula hammed it up but he mostly was okay, and the greatest shame was they kept trying to make Connor Trinnear a freaking country bumpkin aw shucks guy when the man was money. The usual suspects of guest actors of course was also good...Shran haha.

Bannon Braga et al. just wasted so much. It was like watching the Oilers with ChiaPet, then with McDavid under Holland. It's passable, but you can be so much more.
Very well written commentary lol

I hear what your saying about some of it for sure. The rubbing the disinfectant on each other while in your underwear was nonsensical in at least one episode I remember, and taking a dog on a diplomatic away mission with a species you already offended only to have it take a wiz on a sacred tree?! Yeah that was just a silly story idea imo. They definitely tripped in some story ideas.

But over all I still enjoyed the show. And I really liked T'Pol actually, and not for her "physical" qualities... ahem, I mean I'm not complaining about those qualities, even though every Trek that does that sort of thing is transparent in what they are actually doing. But I thought she played a good Vulcan. Maybe she goes off the rails in later seasons and I'm forgetting?

It was just a such a wasted opportunity.

Yeah, I'm being too harsh on the actors. Blalock isn't the worst thing ever, but she was saved by the whole Vulcans not displaying emotions thing, as she had no range. Braga though liked to hire female cast of a certain type and voiced it enough. It's not her fault what they did to the character and she wasn't going to say no to a 'dream' job.

Don't forget the whole massage meditation treatment in private quarters in episodes. Don't even get me started on the infiltrators who use pheromones and touching to get information. Orion slave girls was one thing, but the blonde Xindi spy that interogates T'Pol with erotic massage? WTF.

I'm still halfway through season 1 of TCW, just found out there's a movie I need to watch first, and got side-tracked by season 4 of the Doctor Who revival.

on season 2 of TCW...
TCW = The Clone Wars, or something else?

For us, getting through 1883. Overall I'd have to say just meh. The monologues are brutal imo. The whole show feel just a little too melodramatic to me. Ep 6 and 7 were a bit better. Have to finish it but I don't love it.

I don't think we've mentioned it much, but is anyone watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds? Is it any good?

And I saw this upvoted comment on the latest trailer on YouTube for the Prime Rings of Power show. Made me laugh :)

"When Galadriel pulled out her lightsaber and said, "Wakanda forever" sent shivers up my spine. Tolkien couldn't have written anything better"

I'm still hoping that show might be worth watching, but I maintain a healthy level of skepticism.

I like Strange new worlds for me at least it is much better than the other Treks out there. I am still hoping they come out with Asoka Tano, I would be satisfied even with a Cartoon of a series.
I started to watch Doc WHo the season that was last up I think season 4.
also probably will start to watch Evil since the new season has been out for a while, then maybe move over to Motherland Fort Salem it isn't too bad either.
one show I was and am curious about is the time traveler's wife. I watched a little bit of it buit then was called out then forgot about it and so I never got back to the show.

Star Trek Discovery was/is just brutal, even a friend of mines who loves anything sci-fi couldn't stand it after he got to the Mirror Universe episodes.

I'm skeptical of ST SNW and LOTR ROP, and would like to see some feed back as well.

If you haven't seen Star Trek Lower Decks give it a whirl.
It wasn't as bad as I had feared, nor as great as I hoped; it's just fun light fare and I'm good with that.
The last two episodes of Season 2 were the high point of the series so far, so upward trajectory.
