The Winamp Thread

I suggest you try out the Ozone plugin. Very nice. The basic EQ "Rock" preset is a very generic one. It boosts the low and highs and cuts the mids. You can save different EQ presets for different songs and also make your own. Set you EQ with all the sliders in the middle. This means the EQ is doing nothing. When you move the sliders down you are cutting that frequency and when you move th up you are boosting them. Play around with it and learn how it changes the sound. This way you can tailor the EQ to the sound signature YOU like. Hope that helps. Get the OZONE plugin. There are some others too but ozone is one of the best.

Are you using XP or Vista? I have some other tips that will improve your sound, but we can get to that later.

Niether. Win 2000 Pro sp4.

I'm using winamp with vista. My keyboard has the basic skip, pause, stop keys on it; is there a way to use these with winamp, or will they only work with WMP?

Thanks,
Lyxtwing

Does your keyboard have included software? If not perhaps look through the Winamp Plugins section and see if you can find one for Hot Keys.

Question: I'm not sure if I understood well. I know that low frequencies are for the bass and high for the treble, but is the medium "middle" mostly for the voices???

the middle freq will bring out the sounds of guitars and voices, and will also give your drums a bit more 'pop'. try adjusting your mid range while listening to 'smoke on the water' or something with lots of power chords in it. 'power chords' get their 'power' from mid range. :punk:

many instruments will have their center freqs. within a certain range but their harmonics and other factors that make up the "character" of the instrument will lie within other ranges.

I am preparing a procedure for guys new to Winamp for adding better quality equalizers and effects to your player and info on plugins in general to help users improve their sound quality using this Media player.

Anyone ever found a good G15 plugin for winamp that lets you control the playlist like Ray's G15 Winamp plugin did? Only reason I don't use Rays is the bug that causes Winamp to crash on exit and periodically consume 100% CPU.
