Thinking about switching to Oled.

Recently I have been looking to change up my monitor. Currently running a Samsung a Samsung LC49G95T 49" Ultrawide.
Its the first gen I believe. Its a great monitor. and gives a great experience.

However in the past few months I have found myself streaming a bit, and honestly a 5120*1440p monitor isnt fun to get setup right, and I end up with a stretch/squished output, or a stream that cuts off the sides of my display.

That and I really love the contrast of an oled. Being colorblind, I feel it helps make the different colors pop. (can only imagine what its like seeing it with regular vision)

That being said, let me know your opinions on when you switched to Oled. OR your general opinion

What I am leaning heavily to is an Alienware AW3423DWF. Yes its the older gen, but its fairly cheaper. And dell has no current sales on. And the changes seem to not be drastic between the AW3425DW

Alas I don't have OLED experience (@lowfat has lots and he's given you the thumbs up) but I did have a related question. The monitor you mentioned switching to is a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor, still an ultrawide ratio. Do you know if that is still going to give you issues when streaming or is the lower res what will help?

If 16:9 works better for streaming, I know there are OLED options out there for that. I don't stream, but I switched from a 3440x1440 34" to a 4K 43" and I couldn't be happier. It gives me the same physical width feeling when gaming but a whole lot more height to work with. And that 16:9 ratio just works in every game.

I think the 21:9 lower resolution will help quite a bit. vs the 32:9 of the Samsung.

Will likely still have minor stretch/squish, but not nearly as bad. That or have less cropping of the screen.

I suspect you would appreciate having a main display for your gaming and stuff, but a second monitor to run all the other software you need for streaming, etc., unless that's what you already have but don't like the ultra ultra wide display as the main. it doesn't sound like that what you have, but getting a second display to manage all the other stuff and using the primary for just the game would make things a lot easier for you.

yep...and from what you mentioned in the op, it's not convenient to split up your ultra ultra wide display into several virtual. the fix to that isn't getting a smaller ultra-wide but getting a couple smaller displays to put the software you're running and need to monitor on. or have I misread / understood the difficulties?

Display Fusion FTW..... lets you set up different sized zones which can be made to match standard monitor resolutions. The cut off sides are a necessary evil when it comes to content on non-standard monitors.

this is true! I use DF with my Dell U3415w ultrawide display...though I have never tried to play a game on one of them, so don't know how that works or the impact on gaming performance, etc..
 
49" 32:9 down to a 34" 21:9 is a big difference...

I've seen sales on the AW3425DW already though, and would be inclined to go with the "new" panel at least. They are typically advertised as being 240Hz. MSI would be another option that uses the "new" panel.

If you can afford it though, the 45" 5K2K panel from LG is likely a better direction as it's closer in width to what you have.
