Toronto Maple Leafs...

You guys are crazy.

Phaneuf is much better than White, they cannot be compared. Phaneuf is a larger player with a better shot who thinks offensively. Ian White is a small player with great heart who thinks neutral and just began to think a little on the offensive side. Hagman was the Leaf's biggest loss on this trade, but even so it's not a devestating change. Mayers and Stajan are both replaceable players, nothing special. The Leafs got the better deal on this trade by sending away a few bodies that weren't producing enough for the team.

As others have said, Kabby and Phaneuf will greatly improve the powerplay. McCabe 2.0? I'm very happy to have a new "McCabe", just younger and bigger.

As for Blake & Toskala for J.S., there's nothing wrong with this trade at all. Blake was clearly having trouble being productive at all here in Toronto and Toskala is performed way too inconsistent to keep throwing chances at him. J.S. has been taught by Allure and now he can help Gustavsson until he is ready to take over in a year or two.

The young players have a huge chance to prove themselves now, can't wait to see Stahlberg again.

Great day for Leaf fans.

That's going to be the key. Can any of them be top 6 forwards?

Was Jason Blake, Matt Stajan, Nik Hagman, or Jamal Mayers a top 6? That's 1/4. I don't think it will be long before at least one young player breaks out and replaces Hagman. Stahlberg and Bozak both look very good to me.

Bozak has a chance and now maybe the Leafs will bring up Kadri for a few games. No games on tv until Saturday, grr I want to see the new Leafs!

So you're telling me Stajan wasn't a top 6 forward in Toronto?

In Toronto he was first line center but somewhere with good forwards he is 3rd line at best. He played most of the season on line 1 in TO plus a ton of PP minutes and what does he have to show for it? Give any bum that much play time and they will do similar. Losing Stajan is the least of my worries in that trade and I think Bozak will fill his shoes easily.

At least the Leafs still have 1 decent line with Bozak, Kessel, and Poni. Too bad a second line is missing lol, Stepniak, primeau, kulemin are more 3rd line guys.

Rumour hitting the local airwaves suggests Burkie isn't done yet:

Exelby to Oilers. No idea what would be going back. Cogliano is a Toronto boy & his name keeps cropping up whenever trade rumours regarding Edmonton come up - wonder if he'd be included.
Note that it's only a rumour at this point.
I know the Oilers could sure use a hard-nosed D man like Exelby, especially now that Souray, Smid & Staios are all out injured. They're about as tough as a box of soggy kleenex back there right now.

Ooo yeah it would be cool to get cogliano, but I dont think the Oilers want to give up a good young player like him for nothing.. They are desperate for D though so you never know.

White was the only one i was disappointed to see go, other than that.. good trade imo.
now they just to get ride of the puck hogging, complete dud, i told my buddy when we got kessel it was a $27m mistake.
cant score from behind the net idiot!
