Virus Scanner

Microsoft Security Essentials is not perfect, but it is light enough to even use on my netbook, although XP wasn't, lol.

I use nothing but MSE on every PC I assemble/fix.

Using MSE at home and forefront (same thing just paid) at work. But there are better out there when it comes to detection.

As for annoying I would have to say that McAfee is one that drives me crazy and same with Norton. Both can be a real pain to remove.

The problem with MSE is it's now garbage and should be removed from any and all pc's. It sucks as it was my favourite. I'm now using BitDefender free but it's not without it's issues either. At least it's light and straightforward.

The most annoying one I've ever dealt with is Vipre. Sure Norton can be a pain in the ass but try having a virus definition update take down a network and then figuring out what the cause was. It's also happened more than once so no matter how good it may be I'll never install in on any clients servers.

vipre comes in many flavours.

I thought Avira or ESET were pretty decent for basic single user installations?

I really like F-Secure. It doesn't bog down your computer, protects it well, and customer service is good. You get what you pay for.

AVG wins hands down for worst AV to deal with for me. the amount of times that I've seen the IS version of it completely break network connectivity is ridiculous. Combined with the fact that the included uninstaller barely ever works. I just tend to keep the removal tools for the major AVs on my flash drive, much easier than the uninstallers.
