We are so screwed.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand there goes the false floor.
Its starting again.... well, actually it never really ended... but I'll get into that later when im not at work.
Its going to be a really rough ride for the middle and lowerclass.

I give it a month before the euro fails and the Euro banks start going under. We're all broke.
Awesome.

Disagree, strongly, with the last part. Greece may fail, but there is enough strength to cover that off among the EU powers. Spain or Italy would be another Lehman 2008, catastrophic everywhere.

How does the Euro fail? I forget the exact number but there are something like 17 countries involved. They are looking at putting together a 'EuroBond' to finance potential problems like Greece Spain et al...whether they get there soon enough is another story......but there's way more than enough economic firepower to do it if they can gather the political will.

Technically, the US markets at the close did not go as low as the August low close, which is taken to be a good sign...not carved in stone but generally *should* mean it's just a test of the prior low...note that they bounced up hard, recovering about 25% of the day's losses in the last hour. Wouldn't be surprised by a pretty big bounce tomorrow, say 200 on the Dow. But, of course, it could easily go the other way.

To an earlier point in this thread, I was standing in front of the TV just screaming 'LET THEM FAIL', particularly the GM bailout but some of the others too. I am in agreement that they should have taken a harder fall and get the pain into the past, the dip would have been worse but the recovery stronger.

Canada, with its resource base, and speaking very broadly, is in much better economic shape than some might think. Our dollar has fallen under par recently, as our resources are less needed in the case of a global slowdown PLUS the USD has risen as people buy it as a safe haven (I know, right? but skeptic or not, it is very true). But look out 5-10 years and we will STILL be the envy of much of the world, for our standard of living and stability, imo.

Will there be some pain? Yes. Are we 'screwed'? I choose to think not, with eyes wide open.

Did anyone see Newt Gingrich on the news the other night? They played some clips of his opinions over the past few weeks. That is one scary thought to see him in power.

He won't be. This is just the 'Anybody but Mitt' contest and it's a farce. Gingrich's infidelities and consulting ties to Fannie/Freddie will cause him to retreat in the polls in about two weeks or so.

Honestly, I think anyone including a coma patient could run against Prez Oblahblah and win. Then again I couldn't believe peeps feel for that empty suit's promises the first time around. Havent been paying attention much but...I like Herman Cain and if I was a Yank (that God I am NOT as they are circling the drain FAST) would vote for him in a heartbeat. At least he has proven he can successfully run something besides a community organization (ie be more than just an empty suit / token black man)....thats more than Oblahblah can say even after FOUR years in office.

It does not matter who gets in, they are all just empty suits. Also, gwbush had EIGHT was it? Aside from turning usa to shit(even more so than before), what did he do again?

Not saying that "ohblahblah" as you put it is the saviour or anything.. but no matter who is elected the people are ******.

Well dubba, did lead them through a very bad time. I can just imagine what would have happen if it Al G was prez during 9/11. But he too should have been a one term wonder.

Thats why I like Cain, as he is an outsider who is blunt and is not just smooth and polished BS. Honestly at this point the yanks need someone who is not going to enforce the status quo. Then again I am a Libertarian by nature (with some contradictory POVs on health care and education) so when I look at the avg american and how they have pissed away all their freedoms for NOTHING, half of me says they will get the leader that they deserve and not need and the other half thanks the Flying Spaghetti Monster that I am not a Yank!

Reference H.L. Mencken -- two of his pithy quotes seem quite appropriate to the Republican debates.

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard. (1916, A Little Book in C Major)

Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. (16 Nov 1917, "The Divine Afflatus," New York Evening Mail)

Ron Paul is the only guy living in reality in the Republican race. He is the only hope for America amongst any of the candidates no matter the side. Sadly, they would most likely assassinate him before he could do any good. The world is in a major decline in general, the writing is on the walls. The banker elite are getting their way and I only hope they are stopped very soon or it is too late for us all. Sorry for the tinfoil hat speech, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that there are bad things going on in the financial world and if it all comes to a head at once noone is gonna be spared.

PS: If Iran gets attacked, which if the US has their way they will, expect the Russians to strike back on Iran's side and here comes WW3....
