What is this cable connector?

This is from the system PerryC most kindly donated towards my power pc wattage meter project, however we were both wondering what exact connector this was. It's a 6-pin connector with 5 of the six populated with what looks like a mix of 12 and 5V from the power supply. We're looking at the connector called P4 in the picture below.

Its not a pci-e connector as the system is probably 10 years old fielding a Pentium D processor. Fairly certain its not the expansion of the 20 ATX to 24 pin, nor is it the cpu 4 pin power supply as that's already populated as well.

im thinking it was made for an 'inhouse' peripheral?

or the like. that or it was also meant to go on some sort of workstation board.

I was stumped as to what it is, couldn't find anything here All about the various PC power supply cables and connectors (stumbled across that researching other stuff) Dell PSUs are really wierd.

If you search the service tag on the support part of the Dell website, it will tell you the system was purchased in 2005/2006. It was for one of kids so I never really looked to hard inside till the other day. According to that site I linked the 6 pin PCI-E made its first appearance around 2003.

Not sure I would hook up a video card to it and try though
 
First I thought it was the P4 power connector, but in your pic the other cable is labelled P7 so I doubt P4 means Pentium 4, and could just mean 'power 4' or 'plug 4.' The 'Pentium 4' plug was also only 4 pins, and this one is 6.

There used to be a 6 pin power connector for the mobo back in the day that had a mix of 5 and 3v rails, but was shaped differently. If the PSU is 10 years old, and has that connector, it could be a proprietary connector for the old 6 pin mobo plug.

So if the plugs are labelled 'P1, P2,' etc, and has a weird shaped plug to boot, I would guess this is a power supply from a HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc. and they labelled the plugs and modified the old 6-pin mobo plug.
 
I honestly have no clue, but I've only ever seen it in old Dell systems. Never seen it plugged in either.
 
i know you said 12 volt. but from what you described and whats on that site

should be 5v and 3.3v

cause i can't find any other type of 6 pin connector
 
Its the old original ATX spec 6 pn AUX connector. It provides 3.3v and 5v to the mobo. Havent seen it since back when the ATX spec was first ratified!
