Whats your latest purchase?

Ordered a Harmony Home Control, hub + basic remote. So sick of my IR receiver and the fact that HDMI-CEC doesn't work worth a poo. Supposedly should control my Shield over WiFi + Bluetooth as well.

Logitech Harmony is a bit of a pain to get nailed down perfectly in their software. I find I have to get quite custom in their settings to fine tune exactly what I want, but after that it always "just works". I have an RF model that repeats in a closed closet to my rack. Works like a charm. Even have an IR light switch so I can sit down, start the projector and then kill the lights. I am quite happy they didnt sell the division, and I am sure it would have gotten nerfed eventually if it was sold.

I was one of the first people in Alberta to get a harmony setup way back when. Funny thing is I still have that unit and it works like a charm still!

Which model do you have? I had a Harmony 650 back in the day and it wasn't great but it was still IR.

The Hub / Home Control / whatever use an IR blaster to control IR devices so I could also put the receiver in a closet. Will probably have to buy another one since I can't put the IR blaster where it can reach both the AV receiver and the TV. That is unless the IR blaster from my old Hauppauge HD PVR works. :blarg:

Can also use my phone to control everything if I so desire. Can even control useless stuff light lights and blinds w/ it . Which the Shield can also do but w/ voice control.

This is the one I ordered.

My newest one is the Harmony 900. Essentially the Harmony One with RF capabilities. It comes with two RF base stations with IR repeaters and I had the PS3 BT adapter so I could use it to control everything in my rack with no line of sight or running blaster wires. Had it for, wow, could it be five years now?? Anyways, long ass time and it still works like a charm. Super pain in the ass to get it working correctly with my projector as it just double pumps some codes to do some important and offten used features. Took a long time to get working correctly. And these projectors really hate bulb strikes and of course shutting the unit off was one of the worst to get working correctly.

If you ever want get prices and support for Harmony, or any fantastic service/prices on Home Theater gear, shoot me a PM and I will hook you up with my guy Scott at Lasertech AVU in Leduc. They do jobs from a couple hundred bucks, all they way into the hundreds of thousands, and Scotty is the best in the business. Usually tosses pretty fantastic prices at my friend and referrals. Been a Harmony dealer since the first days.

I was going to pick up a Harmony hub on a sick sale and never really saw the need with my 900 doing so well. When I finish my master bedroom renovation I plan to do some neat stuff, so may need one then. Like the smart phone aspects. I will definitely revisit the idea down the road :)

Personally, I really love the IR light switch. $35 bux for the dimmer is well worth it, at least in my situation. People trip out when they see it usually too :punk:
