Who is a programmer around here?

That's nothing. Last week I was shocked when I saw this ad at the craigslist: "Our client is looking for an APL developer" :shok: That was spooky. For those who doesn't know what is APL -> wiki.

Awesome :haha:

In the 'old' but high paying job department... one of the guy in my company got called by a bank not that long ago and got offered a job as a Fortran programmer. I was laughing my butt off but it proves that there's still a demand for guys on big mainframe

50 an hour? wow, theres gotta be an old fart whos got time!

That's the norm for jobs demanding knowledge of older language and real OS !(MS)... and that's why I'm telling everyone I know that want to work as a programmer in a company to learn those languages because you can't have a better starting salary than with those ones.

Heck my friend was offered 140k$ a year for the Fortran job and he is 20. :shok: (he declined, but that's another story)
Compare this to the 30-40k$ entry salary for jobs in .NET or whatever other languages and you understand right away why older languages might be a good choice hehe.

I'm in third-year electrical right now, and we've been getting some exposure to a variety of PLC and PIC programming. Actually rather fun - I think I may even prefer it to "software" programming. I had expected to go the electrician/hydro route after this year, but I may be having second thoughts at this time.
