Witcher 3 - The Wild Hunt

In fairness, hasn't The Witcher series always been console first?

TW1 was only for PC. TW2 Xbox came 11 months after PC release.

Was about to play the game but I can't figure out how to play w/ framerate higher than 60.

EDIT: Edited user.settings. Found LimitFPS and increased it to 144.

I'm liking the clothing textures so far, but controls are going to take me a while to get used to. Not sure what I think of the overall graphics, but no real complaints yet.

Playing with a gamepad first and seems a little oversensitive to look movement, going to switch to KB and Mouse and see what that's like.

Good start so far.

I get a little nervous when I see quotes like this....

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC) review impressions: Smoothly slaying monsters | PCWorld

And I also think the PC controls are not great, to say the least. After playing the tutorial I abandoned the keyboard for a gamepad—clearly the input device the game was designed around. The keyboard controls are unnecessarily convoluted, with “Dodge” for instance requiring you to press Alt and W/A/S/D at the same time. Considering how much you’re dodging, it’s a huge pain.

I'm praying that any of the PC centric review sites take heed of the complaints from their reviews of DAI and stick strictly to KB/M rather than doing as this gentleman did and drop the keyboard in favour of the gamepad fairly quickly.

Some of us are not console players and have zero desire to play the game with a controller.

I've already had my first Crash (freeze). Had to Ctrl-Alt-Tab to shut it down. Might have been Afterburner as I've had issues with both it and Precision on DIII under win 8.1.

First impressions are that it's not really an open world A-La Oblivion / Skyrym. Didn't take me long to hit "the end of the world" during some free ranging outside of the first tavern. I'm guessing it's more like a big corridor a-la DAI, although it's possible that it's just the first tutorial area that isn't open. (Hitting the world map when bumping into the "end of the world" isn't a positive sign though).

If I hadn't received the game code with a vid card purchase I wouldn't be buying the game until I saw an actual PC KB/Mouse review and/or had a good long period of time to see what user reviews have to say about the KB/M experience (and won't be for any future titles).

Well, I'm screwed (and annoyed). While there is some limited keymapping, just like when Witcher 2 was first released, the game does not allow me to remap WASD keys and being left handed, it means I can't play. It was several months before W2 issued a patch for full keymapping and I could actually play it.

Game looks great though (annoyingly).

Will try to get GOG to cough up for a refund but doubt that will happen either.

Well, the Armored Warfare beta starts soon...

EDIT - response from pc_support/witcher:

I'm afraid that changing certain key-bindings is not possible for now.
The only hotfix I can recommend is to switch to an xbox pad (both 360 and x1 are compatible)

Its better then DAI, already. The controls are bad, but welcome to console era. *sigh*

As to your crashes, I've tanked 3 times so far in two hours. :blarg:

Played about 2 hours on AMD's beta drivers. No crashes, 70+ FPS on high (didn't play with setting much), and I'm not dying over and over and over and over like Witcher 2's beginning. Good to me so far, especially once I find me a Drowner brain.

That really is pathetic IMO for any PC release to require the use of a controller. I'll play (and enjoy) it because I got it for free, but I wouldn't have spent a penny on it otherwise, and will have to seriously consider whether or not I'm interested in the expansion(s).

Prepare for the $h*tstorm if PC review sites don't focus on this and review it with a controller like they did DAI. Quite frankly, if gameplay on KB/M is so painful that PC reviewers don't want to complete the game using KB/M then it should automatically lose 3/10 points.

If you're of the same mindset as I am you probably don't want to hear this but would something like the G13 (Gamepad - G13 Advanced Gameboard - Logitech) allow you to map out the the WASD (and whatever else you needed) keys?
