Hey guys, Im looking to upgrade to an i9 9900k soon.
What would you guys suggest for a a Z390 motherboard?

Id like:

- ATX or E-ATX
- 2 PCIE 16x slots with the fancy with metal shielding.
- Full bandwidth for an M2 OS drive and main apps
- Full bandwidth for one other sata ssd ( does this exist with an M2?)
- Wifi
- At least 1 usb-c , on the back panel or for a case front.
- Made for overclocking for down the line (lots of vrm phases? )
- A clean industrial look, not too flashy (love the look of the EVGA Dark, not the price). No need for RGB stuff.

My budget for the motherboard is up around 400$.

Is this too "goldilocks" of a requirement?

Not sure about ALL Mobo's.....high end Asus are 16 Lanes CPU / 8 Lanes PCH.......for example an SLi arrangement will be x8 each GPU (or x16 single GPU) w 4x / 4x for 2 NVMe M.2 SSD's from the PCH

......the additional M.2 DIMM.2 Slot will "steal" Lanes from the CPU that would normally be for the PCI-E (GPU) Cards........if all that makes sense - based on my MXI-E Board..........

Whatever your config is you want best to simply check the specs of each Board......if the specs dont fully describe the allocation download the Boards manual......

also shared lanes is memory (PCI-e to M2 adaptors) and Raid controllers

24 lane is not important on a single GPU system, to a server system yes

Thats something I never thought of doing! DUH!

Its just that if im upgrading I want to have max bandwidth for all my usual devices.

Im looking to have 1 gpu for the moment ( I realize if I want 2 ill have to split the 16cpu lanes in 2 )
I also have my M2 for the OS and main apps but I will also have a SATA ssd as well.

Sorry to somewhat hijack this thread but I have a similar question that I was about to post about.

At work we have been getting Asus B360M-C/CSM boards for awhile now and I like them as they give us 2 displayports, 1 hdmi and 1 vga that can do 3 monitors (including 2 4k) all on the integrated video. Now with a couple of machines people have gotten it with a 9900K and then wanted a video card (adobe work/satellite image stuff/etc.). After getting these systems I have started to wonder if we are killing some of the performance either from the card or the drive (WD Black 1tb nvme).

So upon looking at the specs it appears that the B360 only supports 12 PCI-E lanes and 24 high speed I/O lanes. Since I have another person wanting a simlar build I need to figure out how much performance is lost using that board vs say a Z390 board (most likely a TUF Asus one). Anyone have any insights? Is this killing gpu performance? Drive performance? Both?

Oh the video card being used on these couple builds have been the Evga RTX 2070 Black.
