Hockey Stanley Cup

well, I guess players are allowed to kick the puck into the net now.... you can thank Dallas for that!

Having seen the replay a few times, I thought your post was just 'sour grapes' comin' from a Jets fan, especially since Hellebuyck is the one that ultimately put it in the net, so I went looking for a little more info, and I think this video(bear with it, since it yaps about why Marchment should've gotten booted from the game, before it gets to the goal) explains it pretty well: Dallas/Jets game

I didn't watch the game, so I don't know - MAYBE the panel actually went over all of what the video mentions about the wording of the rule(s)?

The problem with that goal is it completely changed the momentum of the game. Both teams were pretty evenly matched - game could have gone either way at that point. Then the controversial goal happens, game gets delayed for 10 minutes, and the Jets are thinking it's going their way. Then it doesn't. And they are shook. Game over from that point forwards.

@great_big_abyss When I first saw the replay on that goal, I was wondering why there was even any controversy at all, i.e. sure, the guy kicked the puck towards the front of the net, but the Jets ultimately put it in their own net, so I didn't see why there was an issue. Having said that, I didn't realize the rule(s) on that were worded as that video pointed out, about being deflected by various players, or the goalie, but based on that video, I think the correct call was made. Why it took them THAT long to come to their conclusion is beyond me..... did the refs have to pull out their rule books to go over them with a fine toothed comb, and dissect the replay video for that length of time to figure out who actually put the puck in the net, and how, i.e. via propelling it in vs. deflecting it in!?

As for changing momentum, well, single goals do that all the time, whether playoffs or regular season..... it sucks for Jets fans, but it's part of the game. The time it took was definitely over the top, though.....

if it goes in the net...it's in the net and that's a goal. I don't see how it can be argued about...I don't see how anyone can put it in the net nefariously as that's the whole purpose of the game. if the team scored on itself, tough luck, do better. LoL!

The arena got 8+ minutes worth of freebird over the loudspeakers while they waited. ;)
