My new over the top gaming rig...

And at a 1440 resolution the GPU you selected is WAYYYYYYYY more than needed lol

:shok:

Yeah if you're playing minecraft..

The R9 290~290X & GTX 780 & 780ti are the first cards able to push 120 fps in 1080P in modern games with ultra settings and AA.

The same cards in SLI is what a 2560x1440 display needs to push 60 FPS for the same mentioned above. Check gaming benchmarks in video card reviews anywhere please.

If this is purely for gaming and not knowing intentions with the PC past that I would drop the CPU to something less. I doubt you would find many games that require more then 4 cores. That should also cheapen your mobo choice a bit as well. As discussed drop the SSD down to a 256 model. If you wait until boxing day or early Jan sometime the Klipsch 2.1 speakers usually come on sale for around $100 or so. They will destroy any other 2.1 system out there <$150.

I never got my hands on one but tech that swiftech H220 AIO cooler should out perform the H100i in cooling as well, but someone that actually has touched one should chime in on that. The H100 is not a bad cooler by any means. But that swiftech has dipped into that same price point lately and had better specs.

Just my 2 cents on your build if I were to build myself and try to stick to a budget.

^^^^ Yep.....I can confirm this for sure, especially with modern DX11 Titles...FC3, Crysis3, Metro LL, BF4 etc etc.....certainly wouldnt want to drop back down to a single 780Ti for my 1440p.
Although, it would still just be a matter of turning down some of the extras

If 1440P monitors were 144hz capable, then yeah, I could see 2x 780Ti's being necessary to push 120fps at Ultra settings.

AS it is though, a single 780Ti pushes 59fps at 1440P in BF4 at Ultra, necessitating the need for only a single card.

Same thing with Crysis 3 on Ultra at 1440P:

^^^ Love your graphs, my quote is based on real time experience gaming (not some graphs pulled off the Net) for a few hrs each night my friend.....with games I listed, trust me when I say if I go down to single Card I would have to back all my settings down to maintain steady 60 FPS.....I dont Bullshvt!!

....I've looked at a number of those graphs and athough they may say 1440p "all Ultra" what about all the extras...such as MSAA, SSAO, HBAO, Tress FX, TXAA etc etc etc....usually those graphs will show only "All Ultra" with FXAA :bleh:

...the other thing is what are Minimum Frames....if Average is 59 FPS its likely minimum is dipping into the low 40's perhaps, to me that is unacceptable if its a constant occurrence, especially during "busy and intense" scenes.

Did you look at Average Frames in Tomb Raider....49 FPS...minimum would be crap....
Crysis 3 a number of the settings were turned down,,,including overall being High vs Very High and more importantly AA set to Low vs MSAA x8

...I'll stick to hitting the power button on my Rig and launching an exe vs Googling :punk:

Fair Enough. Although, to be fair, benchmarks by review sites are the standard upon which we all have to rely in order to judge hardware...we can't just go on word of mouth. Those benchmarks may not be 'exactly' run the way you run your games, but they represent a nice average.

As for the 'extras', click on the links. 4xMSAA, AA Post @ High, and HBAO tested in BF3. TressFX? You're running an AMD card, are you?

My point is that most reputable review sites will run benchmarks the way us gamers run them. At close to maxed out. Hardware Canucks does it, and Tech Report does it. If they tell me that the average FPS of a graphics card at Ultra is 60fps, then I tend to believe it.

As far as minimum frames are concerned, the 99th percentile frame times and 'time spent beyond' pretty much tell that story.

Anyway, I don't want to belittle your rig. Your twin 780Ti's are awesome to behold, and I wish I had the kind of money to setup a rig like that. Just don't try to inform somebody that SLI 780Ti's are necessary to run max settings at 1440P. Because it just isn't true. It's misinformation. SLI 780Ti's will be necessary for 4K at maxed settings, yes. A single 780Ti holds for 1440, and a single 770 holds for 1080/1200P maxed out. Unless you want to run 120/144hz, in which case, you need a 780 or 780Ti for 1080p.

I'm not trying to start a fight with you, Mate, I'm just trying to inject a little dose of reality into the discussion :thumb:. Trust me when I say I admire all the computer parts you buy...be they overkill or not. But for some people on budgets (even $3000 budgets like the OP), it becomes really hard to justify SLI 780 Ti's.

^^^ Hey no worries, but I still disagree....it all depends upon what you're happy with....if I'm running All Ultra x4 MSAA BF4 and dipping down in Frames to 40's....bah...thats shit. Also did you notice that Crysis 3 was nowhere near Maxed out in the Settings (High vs Very High and AA at the lowest setting out of about 7 settings)....I was pretty clear in my Post that in order to Max out everything using 1440p you will need 2 Ti's.....perhaps I should have stated that "to maintain minimum Frames at or above 60 FPS with everything cranked".....
...and again TR 49 FPS Average.....

.....ist not misinformation at all, in fact your information would be "misiinformation" my friend....your graphs you posted, albeit in some games prove this

^^^ But to plainly state to someone that "oh yeah you'll be able to crank all th settings to Max and have no issues with stutter and frames dipping isnt reality.....and if I was building a gaming PC fora Client running 1440p I would tell them that they certainly will have to turn down some settings...simple as that....if I told them otherwise, guarenteed my phone will ring

..now I'm assuming you're running 1440p and have tied all these games out?...with all the settings turned up?

....anyhow, no fights either from my end :thumb: ......I just dont like "tweaking" Graphic Settings when I play....for the time being anyhow

...4K is a whole new matter, I personally think SLi or even Tri SLi 780Ti's will struggle with only 3GB Vram..

No, actually. I'm currently running 1920x1200, all titles maxed out with my GTX770. Rather, I WAS running 1200P. My monitor fritzed out, and i haven't gotten a new one yet. I'm thinking of waiting until end of year and picking up a cheap 1440P monitor. I will likely need to pick up a second 770 at that point and run SLI.
