Microsoft announces Windows 10

Hrmmmmmmmm........

I didn't realize that 1'st gen i5 mobile graphics have never been supported..... was going to try W10 on an i5-520M and figured that the initial incorrect driver install (had to force safe mode so I could see device manager to get rid of it) was just a PITA that I could overcome, but looking around the 'net it appears that there aren't any W10 drivers for GMA.

That seems like relatively new hardware which should be able to support it, and I jumped ship immediately with bad memories of the initial AMD driver fiasco being brought to mind.

edit: I'm also surprised that W10 doesn't appear to install chipset specific SATA drivers.

I wonder how many PCs out there are missing potential performance/features because they've assumed that windows 10 is installing the best match for all of their hardware as opposed to something generic that just works.....

It's almost like "They" are trying to force us off our perfectly good "old stuff" and go out and buy "new stuff", isn't it? /sarcasm.........................................:angry2:

Edit:

A rather belated thanks to sswilson for bringing this up. Some friends were considering Win10 for their perfectly functional Q6600/G31/Vista system. It does what they want it to do.

Ha....Back to the Future!:haha:

Edit: Or have you actually been able to keep it from updating for a year?

Haven't updated it in a year. I prevented updates w/ group policy editor. I updated just prior the anniversary edition update, which AFAIK prevents that. This is just a Surface 3 Pro, not my main desktop. So I really don't care if it updates or not on its own. So I think I may go ahead and do an update.

Well surely, (and I know, don't call me Shirley,) they wouldn't release any updates that break their own stuff, would they?

To the MS Paint comment by chrisk, it seems there is a least one artist out there that prefers Paint over anything, because of the limitations it imposes. I like paint for saving screenshots of benches in a post friendly format. Fortunately the versions of Windows that I prefer to use, (not 10 for the benches that I like to run,) will continue to have Paint.

Sniping tool is so much faster to take screenshots and save them.
