Last year, Monash University scientists created the "DishBrain" – a semi-biological computer chip with some 800,000 human and mouse brain cells lab-grown into its electrodes. Demonstrating something like sentience, it learned to play Pong within five minutes.

Possible. The people who have been in AI development the longest are the ones most concerned with the possibilities, since they keep saying that we don't really know 'how an AI thinks & processes.'

However, my guess is that the competitive rush between all these companies is going to unleash and make the problems much worse. Like copyright, cloning, deepfakes, etc. Consider how much of Hollywood is on strike against the AI problems and then consider the corporations that are profit oriented are going to shift from people to AI to cut corners, cut costs while increasing profits.

Then there's the people who have no ethics and will use AI in ways we can't even guess at this time. We can guess some of it based on literature, movies, etc. But crooks, foreign hackers, arms dealers, etc. won't have limitations.

Even if people are using AI to develop things for humanity like health & welfare, science, environment, it may not be fast enough to compensate for the damage that's happening.

Thinking that scientist will move the hands of the Doomsday clock even closer to midnight. Global Warming, Climate Change, War, water shortages, food shortages, mass movements of people...
 
dang it id its like some derp decided to ignore everything about Ai and decided we can avoid the pitfalls of that movie because we smart >< from the guy who wrote these things into existence we as a species decided lets make em real.
 
Why does no one say that AI will soon replace forums? I've already seen such forums where you ask a question and a bot answers you first and then people. Soon there will be no people on the forums at all))

Well that completely depends on what you are accessing the forum for ;)

If you are accessing just to get a quick technical question answered, for example, then yes, and AI can clobber the real folks on that.

But if you are accessing the forum for community, to discuss topics, get opinions, speculate, share personal experiences or activities (PC builds for example), etc. the AI can't match that. Real people still win... at least for now :)

Exactly. Look at 9/11, did any of us expect something like that? It took some genius level of terrorism to think up and plan that attack, all without the level of tech we own today.
Not to be a doomsayer but I have to believe there's more good people out there than bad who can prevent some wicked Ai type of terrorism. That is if I want to sleep at night.
