Amazon announces new Blink XT2 surveillance camera.

I plan on eventually building something up but my intentions are strictly a PoE system on a UPS, not really fond of the idea of cordless battery driven cameras because my luck is they day I need to replace the batteries will be in the middle of a -40'c streak. Their pricing for a 5 camera system however does seem attractive.

indeed, the pricing is good. I am curious what mAh battery they based their 2 year lifespan on. I have seen up to 2800mAh at this point...so hopefully they were basing it on their own branded 2450mAh, the highest capacity under their AmazonBasics brand.

I likely would have to replace the batteries sooner as the street I live on is super active and I suspect passing traffic would kick the camera's on all the time. :P

I quickly checked their stats they said based on X seconds of video activity... it worked out to less than 15h of video activity on a pair of batteries. Considering how touchy some motion detection is, those batteries could die in a week.

Pretty sure that's always been the complaints of these battery-powered cameras. Sure, their installation is convenient, but actually end up being really inconvenient since you'll have to grab your ladder and change the batteries weekly.

And really if you're relying solely on motion detection, chances are it might miss events or capture too late. Better off just running proper wired cameras that you can record 24/7.
