Is somebody forcing you to buy a given product; no, fortunately there are other brands and options outside of Intel - AMD, ARM, IBM, etc. (I don't condone Intel's anti-competitive practices, but that is not a monopoly.)That's easy. Monopolies suck.
You do realize that you work for the biggest monopoly in Canada - the government - get paid by a monopoly and that monopoly extracts money from the people (with a threat of violence, if one does not comply "voluntarily"). That is a monopoly, not Intel charging silly amount of money for a product and people voluntarily paying for it or choosing to go with something else, hence this threat - AMD 1600X at 8C/16T.
