I am looking to get an Android TV Box. Currently I am looking at this https://www.gearbest.com/tv-box/pp_764521.html?wid=21
I like the 2GHz quad core cpu and the 4GB ram. I can get my Android stuff on it when i am home plus streaming the Love nature channel plus gaming browsing and listening to music plus consulting my media collection just as well. It would also help me gap the time span while upgrading to an AMD/Intel system with ddr4. Any other recommendations ?

I just use my raspi3 for streaming hen I am not on my PC / I have always been curious as to how the aandroid box works on my raspi I use Kodi with addons I did have some issues but that was because my internet isn't totally reliable in this building :(

Depends if you want "Android" or actual "Android TV". They are totally different from a GUI perspective.

These Android boxes are the same Android on your smartphone. Not exactly the most couch/remote friendly.

Something like the Shield TV (and I think the only other option is the Mi Box) that runs Android TV is far more couch/remote friendly with a large, simplified interface.

Yes I think what i want more is a large screen Android version that i have on my phone, not the Android TV as per se.

Keep your eyes on the RFD computers/electronics thread. They have deals on these devices come up regularly which also have the benefit of folks commenting on the pros/cons of those specific boxes.

I bought a Minix android box a while ago (christmas 2016 I think) and I have been extremely please with it. They do a really good job of supporting their stuff, it is still getting regular updates. It's on the pricey side though.

I replaced a Rasp Pi3 with Kodi on it with a (gasp!) AppleTV 4K so I could have SIRI control over some home automation devices (I have work mandated iPhone). I have grown to like it quite a bit so much so that I will not reinstall the Kodi box. I moved to PLEX for streaming from my media-server on the AppleTV as well. I believe it is nicer looking than Kodi. Now I have Amazon Prime Video on it, Netflix, Youtube and everything else I desire. The picture is very good even with my crappy low-end LG 4K TV. There are quite a few apps available for it including some light gaming. I have mine hardwired to my network and there is zero stuttering or pixelation with it.

Apple is a big nono for me with their grip on accessories market, not to mention that every download in the Apple ecosystem costs, and all the payable content can be found for free on the net.
