I just noticed one of the stores is already listing Phenom II on their web site. Check out "Laurier Computer" under CPU.

HDZ940XCGIBOX AMD PH-II X4 940 3.0G 8MB BOX 125W BLACK EDITION $390
HDX920XCGIBOX AMD PH-II X4 920 2.8G 8MB BOX 125W $332

Link: Laurier Computers

It looks like their prices are slightly on the high side if you look at the other CPUs, but if Phenom II prices all over the place are like this upon release, I may consider the 65nm Phenom instead.

Of course, don't trust any of this until it's actually selling.

3.0 ghz wow im glad they achieved that, but at the same time 125 watts damm less electricity AMD what happened they used to have more efficient cpu's/

Those prices are ramped up in canada dam exchange rate, so the cheapest one is probably 250 in the us.

$390? More expensive than an i7.

???
i'm looking @ ncix right now and i920 is $423
tigerdirect has the i920 for $399 not sure where you are looking though...

it also doesn't require spending $350+ on a board and $200-$300 on RAM just to get that processor.
it can just drop right into an existing AM2+ board (via bios update) with no platform change at all.

i've seen it listed as well @ $379.

Unfortunately, unless they can show some real performance gains vrs the current crop of intel quads (45nm or 65nm) they're pricing themselves completely out of the ballpark.

Looking at those prices, I think they're competing against the wrong platform by pricing themselves just slightly below i7.

Wow if this is the price, I absolutely agree with Wilson. The Q9XX or even the Q6600, with the very limited info we have, seem to be the equivalent of the future PhenomII offering. It also represent a proven overclocking platform for the same or cheaper pricing. And, Intel can always drop the pricing even more.

I really hope they are not aiming at I7 pricing....

I cant believe they are getting away with their Naming Scheme.... i920/i940 from intel, X4 920/X4 940 from AMD...... A little TOO close for comfort....

Dec 20 NDA is lifted.

as well, you HAVE TO REMEMBER these are NOT going to be normal pricing. amd, intel, nvidia, ati, any game does this at launch.

i forget who said it (XS member who has been testing) deneb on air o/c has broke all amd W.R. for benches.

i haven't seen it confirmed yet (and if is legit, probably won't be confirmed until the 20th), newest bench i've seen...takes on a qx9770

AMD Phenom II X4 940 (3GHz) outperforms Intel QX9770 (3.2GHz) in 3Dmark Vantage; lost 9% to core i7 - OCWorkbench Forum on Phenom II X4, Investment Tech Lifestyle SEO Investment forum USA, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, In

basically, if it costs me $400 to upgrade only my processor i'm still coming out ahead.
we all [amd'ers] know it will take a miracle to beat i7. we are not denying that.

there is still AM3 w/ ddr3 and the very slim possibility of the FX return if these turn out good.

amd keeps intel in check. no this probably won't be a amd success like 1st gen X2 was, but it's still going to keep intel's gears moving forward which is what we want.
let the person with the most disposible money lead the way.

quite frankly, from a business perspective, imo what amd has been able to do with as little money for R&D compared to intel is amazing.
