I'm WAY late to the party, but just started playing BG3 since a friend bought it for me. So far it's been enjoyable, but it's a lot to figure out early on. Sorting out the play mechanics has been the biggest stumbling block. (The camera system is extremely frustrating.)

I started with a Barb, thinking it would be straight forward so I could just focus on gameplay and figuring things out. But I quickly found that class to be brutally limiting. Rerolled a Warlock and it's been better, but a bit 'easy mode' so far. I think it'll be a good way to get a handle on mechanics and such. Might get through the first several hours then jump over to something like a Paladin or Druid for some deeper thinking instead of spamming eldritch blast all day :p

Warlock's can be pretty damn powerful. They have one of the best AoE / crowd control spells there is.

Try Storm Sorcerer with elf, half-elf or race that allows hand crossbows (or go for dual crossbows).

Back on BG3 after finishing CP2077. Half-Elf Pally and I'm not ashamed to admit I'm cheating so I can speed through act 1&2 again since I was early/mid into BG in my last playthrough.

Also got Minthara while saving the grove by KO'ing her then saving her at Moonrise. They did a good job of writing her in that way and having her being a thrall of the Absolute while working with the goblins in Act 1. Makes it plausible that she'd join you after. Her VA does a great job but I still hate her. She's a drow through and through and way too evil for me.

I keep thinking I will try a play through an RPG as evil for a change but I can never bring myself to do it - I think I would fizzle out pretty quickly - hard enough to finish a playthrough of anything when you have kids.

She isn't necessarily evil. Actually she seems to be less evil if you take out the grove and romance her. I actually think Astarion is more 'evil' then she is.

I did the same my last play and was surprised there was actually a few lines of dialogue with her talking to Karlach. Which should only be possible if you knock Minthara out in ac 1.

Also Minthara's special bonus action is fantastic.

I finished my 4th play last night. Another honour run but not evil. So much more content than evil and the last stretch was WAY easier.

Think I'm done on the game until they add some sort of new content.

No expansions coming, no BG4, or any other D&D content. Hasbro, parent of Wizards of the coast, did layoff all the WOTC staff that had helped w/ BG3 earlier. And wouldnt be surprised if they wanted way more money after BG3s success.
I'm finding a strong correlation that the way a company/corporation treats it's employees is a good indication how they treat customers. Loss of employees also means a degradation in customer support.

I can understand laying off the employees with Larian having completed BG3 but Larian has in the past kept working on their games. While Larian claimed they support modding, BG3 has not, to my knowledge, implemented anything for mods.

While troubling from the BG3/Larian point of view, it's also troubling with a new game coming out that I've been following. Exodus, that I've mentioned before. The studio Archetype Entertainment is with WotC and has a lot of older BioWare employees, along with HALO, etc.

I'm not suprised. Hasbro are assholes.

They nearly trashed D&D via changes to the 'fair use' licence. It likely would have absolutely destroyed D&D to the point of it not being played any more.

They have milked Magic: The Gathering so hard that the game is essentially a ghost of its former self, via sellouts (seriously? Fallout/LOTR sets?) & monetization to the extreme. I made a lot of money when I sold out of MTG during the pandemic, and I'm glad I left the game, but I'm sad for it at the same time.

I hate hasbro with a passion, its the epitome of a Publicly Traded company that has gone full late stage capitalism.

Here's why per Sven Vinke:

"Greed has been fucking this whole thing up for so long, since I started," Vincke said, while collecting the GDCA Best Narrative award for Baldur's Gate 3. "I've been fighting publishers my entire life and I keep on seeing the same, same, same mistakes over, and over and over.

"It's always the quarterly profits," he continued, "the only thing that matters are the numbers, and then you fire everybody and then next year you say 'shit I'm out of developers' and then you start hiring people again, and then you do acquisitions, and then you put them in the same loop again, and it's just broken...
