Best razor?

If you guys are looking for a great and inexpensive shaving soap, get some Proraso shaving soap from Shoppers Drug Mart, it's under $10 I think, and is by far the "creamiest", doesn't dry to fast and smells really good. Having a good quality soap also helps a lot!

I just use a cheap electric shaver. Sure it doesn't get as close as razors do but it only takes my a couple minutes and lasts me a good long time. $30 for an electric shaver that I have been using for years. The only problem is that in the last week the battery seems to not hold a charge for long and have to have it plugged in. Plus no shaving cream needed.

Thread resurrection sure. But I figured I might as well update it since I decided to get myself a Christmas present early this year and just clicked the order button ;) Bought myself a Merkur 38C, a Fendrihan best badger brush, some feather blades and a container of Proraso soap (May try a few others down the line but I didn't feel like shelling out the cost of something from Taylor of Bond Street).

Should be all at home waiting for me by the time I hit home for Christmas leave. Looking forward to smashing the hell out of my ultra expensive Gillette Fusion. Cartriges get way too expensive when you have to be baby smooth every bloody morning or you'll end up getting charged LOL.

Good for you! Just don't be thrown off if you find the Feather blades harsh. I bought one of the blade samplers, and found that for whatever reason, I like Derby blades the best. The Feathers are excellent...but they don't always leave much room for error.

On the subject of soap, you may want to try something like the Kent soap (also sold under the name Mitchell's Wool Fat); it's fairly in expensive, but is wonderful in the winter--very moisturizing, and an all-around nice shave.

I'll keep those in mind :) I'm already planning another order soon, just an assortment of soaps and blades to basically be able to have random days where I look in my cabinet and go "Hmmm, Sandalwood morning I think". My only fear is that it'll be like some guys on the Shave Den where they have an assortment of 10+ brushes and 10+ razors LOL. Could be a dangerous collection starting! :haha:

You could almost start a new sub forum ( hardware shaved canucks ). I am also looking to order a safety razor. Only thing holding me back is the gift for every one I have to buy for holiday XD Give us some feedback once you got the beast!

I will :) I have to wait to get home on the 18th of Dec to play with it though. They couldn't ship to my address here on base in Kingston and guarantee it would arrive before I head home. Sucks waiting a few more weeks but it will be worth the wait I'll wager. Fendrihan's going to get some great business from me in the future!

If you guys haven't tried Bolzano blades I highly suggest doing so. In the 4 years I've been using a DE they are definitely the best blade I've used to date. Sharp, but not too sharp. Plus rather durable. I can get 2 - 3 times as much life out a blade compared to a Feather.
Bolzano Superinox Double Edge Blades

Plus if you guys don't use an alum stick, I would also suggest doing so. Helps a lot w/ irritation if you have sensitive skin. Rub it all over your face after shaving. Feels good man.

yeah, I've switched from Feather to Shark. I tried Merkur and Astra too, but the Sharks were my favourite, the only downside being that they don't last as long.

I'll try out that bolzano if I can find it locally.
Also, try out Baxter Aftershave, it's amazing.
