I find when have monitor set to Auto set-up with super bright monitor, and blur motion (Battlefield, crysis) , I get that feeling.
Get that refresh rate up.

The 1st time I noticed it was when Nvidia came out with 3d glasses playing quake 3. A total of 30 minutes 3 different times, never did it again after the 3rd time.
My 1st CRT monitor cost me a 1000 Bux and had a refresh of 120 so I didn't experience the frame rate/refresh problem until I bought my 1st LCD monitor. This brought back that same feeling I had with the 3d glasses, but only with games that needed more horse power. I've always run quake 3 at locked in fps for strafe jumping/trick jumping and played competitively for several years until the ladder system was busted for running illegal porn servers for the el oh el.
When I moved on to newer games it all became an issue again and I've spent thousands staying ahead of it. I know humans can only see certain fps and refresh rates, I have found myself to be sensitive to swings in fps and low refresh rates trying to match them and lock it down.
I will ask an eye doctor about this now that you mention it.
@clshades - It is worth mentioning it to them for sure to see if it is something they can correct. With my wife she didn't realize that she was near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other. So her eyes at a certain point (midway) were never able to focus correctly, and the 'Depth' 3D in games made it even worse if they were fast moving. Once she saw an Opthomogist and they check her eyes out, a new set of glasses and her and I now Rock PubG.
So yeah, it never hurts. Not saying that is what is wrong with you but honestly I've seen people deal with things for YEARS that were ended up solved by simple things or changes.

I'm definitely bringing that up next time I see a doctor dude. That would be crazy if that's all it was. Like I say though, when I can run an FPS really well, it doesn't seem to be an issue.

I notice immediately the difference between 60 and 144hz. I couldn't play Fallout 4 at 60hz when it first came out because it was too buggy past 60hz. The game felt so choppy. I love high refresh rates even my phone the OnePlus 7 Pro I have I can notice the smoothness going from 60hz to 90hz.
I can notice though it is harder from 120hz to 144hz. I haven't owned a monitor that has been less than 120hz for a long time and I will never go back.
I think my KDR is better but it is hard to test. Though I typically do have a higher KDR than my friends with only a 60hz monitor. I can tell very easily moving the mouse around if I am at 60hz or 144hz.
I know that humans do not see in frame rates but are constantly taking in information.
Pilot simulations have needed to go above 60hz because pilots could easily and accurately asses visual information far above 60 fps.
