GPU price hikes again.

https://www.mikescomputershop.com/catalog/151/

I feel sorry for ppl trying to build a PC these days, GTX 1060 $440+ /1070 $600+ prices are though the roof.

It's not so much GPU's that's the problem though. It's the fact that SSD's and RAM are also ridicuously overpriced. Is it price fixing or shortages? I'd wager it's the former tbqh. A build that would ideally cost you $1500, now costs $2000.

I was looking at upgrading platforms myself but I just couldn't fathom paying over $2000 sans video card. It's just silly. :angry2:

For the ram issue apparently many semiconductor companies that have fabs have switched production from desktop ram to ram for cellphones, which is a lot more profitable! There are a lot of Chinese fabs in construction right now, to alleviate this issue.

This video card thing is driving me mad. I honestly might end up just ordering a prebuilt and using that until things change. I'm time limited though, because I need a new PC before moving in with GF in April, and I've been trying to buy a decent card for the last year and never seem to catch anything I want/need in stock.

holy shit your still alive?

Haha! Yeah! Been a busy few years. I still check in here from time to time and read reviews. Haven't built a PC in many, many years though. Working on a new one now finally.

Damn, the prices have gone ridiculous. People buying used cards well over original price.

Might have to list my 1080 Ti StrixOC on reddit at this rate, then just save my pennies for the eventual 11XX cards.

It's extremely hard not to be tempted at this present moment. I caved in and listed my aorus 1080ti XE on CL because I've had no time to play video games. It was purchased in late August and it's probably seen less than 5 days of total game time too. Funny how that works...

I figured I might as well get my money back, then build an entirely new rig (still on a 4th gen intel) once RAM/SSD prices drop to reasonable levels. Perhaps by then the Canadian dollar will be slightly stronger, right?

It's gotten to the point where it's so bad that consumers are reporting retailers are enforcing restrictions and Canada Computers has a fraction of the traffic it normally receives.

Many computer parts and components are affected even high quality power supplies. It's cheaper to go console or buy a pre-built than it is to buy new individually because miners are ruining it for genuine consumers. It's a massive speculative bubble just like the current stock market. Don't be surprised if corrections and valuations are more volatile and break through key/critical supports.
