How big is your NAS?

Yeah, looks like the high capacity nas drives that were on sale during national backup day/week are OOS.

Haven't committed to paying for the license yet, but pretty sure I'm going to stick with Unraid. I like the idea that it's mostly hardware agnostic and that you can swap your existing array onto new hardware if you decide to upgrade. It's also super easy to use, especially when it comes to docker containers, and adding extra storage space to your array is as simple as throwing a new drive into the mix (if you've got any open sata ports) or just pop out a smaller drive and replace it with a larger one and the system will rebuild the array using the new drive.

I'll probably pop for the unlimited tier when my trial is up and then upgrade that to the lifetime next year to split up the total costs.

And then when you discover these.............

The only thing that's currently annoying me is the low default warning temp they apply to NVMe drives. Default is 45C while the sn850x is pretty comfortable running @ 60C. Hopefully the tower coolers will bring my NVMe drives down from the occasional 46C (second one due in on wednesday) but for now I should probably stop the array for a minute or two just to change that default to something more in line with the drive's rated specs.

So it is.... I thought the fact that the default numbers were greyed out meant that I couldn't change it while the array was up and running. Done, and now I won't get that nag notification. :)

So..... to answer my own question, 40TB storage capacity with another 8TB sitting in the wings if I found the need. (Currently only sitting at about 3TB data). That's with an excessively large 22TB drive being used as the unraid parity drive.

Ultimately ended up with 4X10TB,+ 22TB on an N-305 board with 32GB mem and 2X 1TB SN850 NVMe as cache. Currently running Unraid 6.12 but suspect I'll upgrade that to 7.XX shortly (and pay for the bloody license).

Holy crap does preclearing ever take a crazy amount of time. We're talking 1990's MFM drive formatted as RLL checkdisk time frames.

Looks like it's going to be 45hrs for an 8TB drive
