Pretty much what the title says. In my main desktop i have my 930 oc'd at 4ghz, but just recently i made a computer for my tv and after only ever having one amd cpu ever i decided to give the fx 8350 a try. I know the amd isnt as good at single threaded programs but overall would it be better than my i7? I cannot get my i7 overclocked any higher. In games such as battlefield which would be better? Also i have 3 gtx 570s in 3way sli, so how would the amd fare for not bottlenecking?

Clock-for-clock the I7 is faster, but when both are OCed then should be interesting...
I would stick with the i7 over any amd offering at the moment. Wait til haswell comes out and then upgrade. I have had a couple of 930's and I think you can get them to 4.2 with 191X22 ratio at a moderate vcore. 200X21 tends to take a lot more voltage. 4.2ghz 930 will beat out 8350 at 4.4ghz on most if not all applications. My friend just picked up a 8350 with an AM3+ sabretooth. We both did cinebench test at 4.5 ghz. I had a 3570K which does not have hyperthreading and he barely beat me. I think it was 7.43 to 7.24 if I am not mistaken.
Agree. And in your last scenario the 8350 would be sucking back substantially more power than the 3570k.
Since you already own it, I suggest giving it a try. Too many mixed opinions around the web to draw a solid conclusion. An FX-8350 will hit 4.6GHz+ no problem. I have a hard time believing that an older gen i7 running at 4GHz will beat it across the board at those speeds. BF3 is a great multi-threaded game and runs excellent on AMD FX cpus. The difference in power consumption looks big on paper but it's not like you'll go broke paying for electricity trying to run it. Hell, you're running 3 x GTX570's so I highly doubt you're worried about power consumption at all. :haha:
With good $50 cooling that 8350 should hit 4.6-4.7 without to much effort 24/7 OC higher if you play, tweak, spend more money on cooling. If all you do is game I doubt there is a huge difference across the board between CPUs everything has been somewhat stagnant for the last few years with AMD playing catch up and intel toying a carrot in front of AMD as they work on reducing power for mobile devices.
AMD does have an advantage $ for $ in multicore scenarios, that's one thing they do better so to speak then intel in their price points.

agreed 4.0 vs 4.0 the 1366 may compete with that 8350.
but at 4.7-4.9ghz i have a hard time believing that maxed out at 4.0 I7 is going to keep up the pace.

The hexa 1366 chips would slaughter AMD chips in just about every way.

Eh, if you ask me Intel wins with single threaded performance, so even with 2 more cores I think that means the Intel would simply catch up on multi threaded performance, not clean the floor or anything.
