My journey to The Fives by Klipsch

Looks great man! Well done. My Edifiers are just sitting on my desk... now I feel somewhat... inadequate! :)

Well you could always try it with a couple of tall Mason jars or some such to see if you like the effect. You could even fill them with sand if you do. Little refinements my friend.

My Edifiers are slopped so the angle of the speaker is at least towards my ears, but their height is not head height.

Vinyl wrap? How tacky. His stands look pretty darned good to me.
I'm not serious...and depending on the wrap it can look AMAZING! I follow a lot of Audio DiY stuff and the works of art people are capable of can be mind blowing. of course, wrap / venner takes a lot more work and effort, but the reward is often well worth it :D

oh...and I totally forgot about wood stains. that is popular too, but then the quality and gran of the wood matters a lot. ;)

To stain it would have needed to change the assembly a little bit I think to get the best effect with miter joints and other complications. Probably assemble upside down with pocket screws and glue holding on the tops. And to enforce the miter joints in doweling and other options are now far more complicated exposed biscuits/splines for reinforcement (preferably in a different species of wood for contrast).

At that point a 4x4 hollowed out with a forstner bit might actually be easier than all the jointery to make the column part... it gets super complicated fast if your trying to make it come out really nice like that

My wife did indeed suggest going the woodstain route but it was a steadfast NO option other than black!
