Well, I think I am getting very, very good prices (mostly because everything is still under warranty and I'm selling to neighbors).

Mobo; going from eVGA 750i FTW (selling $150) to P6X58D for $300
GPU; selling one GTX 260 for $130, hopefully the other for the same price, and a 9500 GT for $40, to a GTX 470 for $300 ish
RAM; selling 2x2GB OCZ sli ready kit for $60, upgrading to that Corsair i7 6 GB kit for $180
CPU; selling Q6700 for $180, i7 950 will be $250
Cooler; selling Vendetta for $35, new one should be $50 ish

My total cost for upgrade is around $300 since I'll also get some money for assembly, but I can still get by on an old desktop and a Macbook for a little bit if it's really worth the time. If you guys recommend I just do the upgrade now, did I choose all the right parts? I don't want to wait a month and miss out on a great RAM kit or something.

new cooler wise, starting with the venerable 212+ or the beast v6gt.

but if i were you? id sell everything and use an intermediate pc till new stuff popped out.

E version of what? And I was actually thinking V8 for the cooler. I might just take your advice and wait though, it seems more reasonable.

Wow, thanks for that tip. I wasn't a huge ASUS fan and didn't know about the e series. I don't even need that extra ethernet port or heat pipe. Thanks for saving me $60!
 
I said this before but checkout this new Asus motherboard, the Sabertooth X58 with ceramic-coating, for 200$. Guru3D's top pick.

I wouldn't wait if my budget is around 1,500$. Then again I wouldn't build anything more expensive.

The HD 6770 fits nicely between the 5850 and 5870. Its power consumption is lower than the HD 5850. It features a TDP of 146W and the HD 6750 a 116W. Idle power usage is 23W and 20W respectively. So you will be getting an "upper midrange" chip that's already stepping on the toes of last year's high-end chips, while doing it on very low temperatures. This also means the chips are much smaller now.

The thought of what the 6870 will be like just shook me. :shok: Can't wait. I need to play now.

I own the P6X58D-E. Great board. Better chipset for gaming. You're getting good money for your old system, therefore I would upgrade. Simply don't go overboard.

Good price on the 950. You can get good ram for a decent price, whereas higher speed really doesn't make a lot of difference for the money you'd shell out.

Did a quick check and found price difference for 1600 of over $120. Generally, the Corsair is more expensive. Mushkin, Patriot, and G Skills are 3 other lifetime warranty ram that are just as good if not better.

With a new system now, you'll have time to enjoy it and unless you have to have the latest, which doesn't seem so, there could be a couple of gpu upgrades and possibly cpus by the time you feel the need to upgrade.

Consider that prices for current i7 components has started coming down, so you're getting more for your money.

Either way, you're getting good value for your current system.
 
Yeah, if you can get those prices for your old stuff, that's a pretty strong case for upgrading. I might be tempted to either get by for a few months on a single GTX260, or perhaps settle for a GTX460 instead of a 470, and do a proper graphics card upgrade around x-mas, as things have been looking pretty promising for around that time.

Alright, thanks a bunch for the tips you guys. Looks like I should do the upgrade but wait out on the GPU then. It's too bad, I had just settled on that Gigabyte SOC version of the 470, but it would probably be more prudent to stick with the 260 for 2-6 months just in case.
