NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN 6GB Performance Review Comment Thread

Thanks for the review, but my question is feature related rather than hardware.... ;)

Should we all be rushing to check out this display overclocking feature? My 680 runs DIII at reduced clocks on my 1920 X 1200 monitor with Vsync enabled.... would playing with this concievably give me a better display since I've got overhead in GPU power?

Absolutely. However, I don't think EVGA has released their supporting Precision utility yet.

Yeah, but putting your rig under full water isn't cheap. How much would you have to spend to watercool? $400? $500? You're getting awfully close to the price difference of a Titan over a GTX680. Not to mention you need the experience, skill and time to want/be able to create a custom loop in the first place. At least with the Titan you just remove your old card, slot this one in, and you're done. 5 minutes, max!

This display overclocking, will it be available on cards other than the Titan? In other words, will my GTX680 support it?

I suppose.
I'll be looking in to getting a titan if this job pans out. Hopefully waterblocks are released in the next month or so.

So is this supposed to be related to a Nvidia driver release or a special feature that will only be available by using manufacturer's third party OC software? I'm currently running AB on my main rig (I prefer the charting feature's display options over EVGA's offering) but would have no problems switching over when / if it becomes available. ;)
 
It was late to the front page by about 10 minutes?

From a gaming point of view, I am totally disappointed with this card at the price point. If we ignore the compute potential and just look at gaming, I'd say this card needs to be around $850 before I actually consider throwing away money just because I like shiny fancy GPUs. Compared to custom cooling solutions for the 7970Ghz, I'd say the cooling/acoustic profile doesn't seem to hold the advantage I wanted to see.
 
I like how tight it is for frame rates, the 690 is an embarrassment when you look at the latencies. Would be interested in seeing a crossfire setup(or the Asus or Powercolor monsters) as well to see its downfalls there, I have the feeling AMD suffers from similar problems. I honestly think the Titan should be priced at $850 with a price drop at that 3 month point. Its a step forward in quality but not $1,000 step. Would a SLI of the titan show similar spastic frame rates as the 690??? Because I would be epic pissed spending $2K for faster stutter.
 
660ti SLI are better most of the time and only cost half the price :facepalm:
 
In all honesty I didn't see this release as being as much about gaming but instead about giving regular consumers a shot at buying one of Nvidia's un-nerfed GPUs. Unfortunately, as SKYMTL alluded to in both this and the previous article, Stanford hasn't been having much luck rolling out a core that fully takes advantage of mainstream keplers' processing abilities let alone the greatly expanded capabilities of this particular beast.

Yes, if you look at raw frametimes. But SLI 660Ti will not give you a better quality of frames per second. They'll have more stutter and 'jaggedness', not to mention the risk of SLI not being supported within a title.
