So I noticed that the "F word" is censored on here and I was wondering:

1) When did this happen? :blarg:
2) Why?

If it's used to flame on someone then I see why you wouldn't want that... But I and others like to use it just in casual conversation as well as humorously, lovingly and everything in between. It's just a word, like poopoo face, except in our society regarded as "more offensive" for whatever reason.

If someone honestly has a problem with "profane words" then I'd like to see them stop using all profane words, all the lesser substitutes for those words, and anything representing those feelings or sentiments. In a nutshell, try expressing zero anger or emotion. It's not possible. We're all human.

Just the attitude some people speak with around here makes me offended, regardless of if they use swears around here. Yet they aren't censored. When someone says "Oh darn" in the rants thread we all know they could be saying "Oh, f*ck" because it means the exact same thing.

My personal opinion is that this censorship is pointless, especially with such a mature bunch of people on these forums. I like to stir in some profanity in my diction for emphasis and humor at times, so I'm kinda ticked that you guys have censored that word (and others?) out.

What I've noticed is that no one my age truly cares about swearing or not swearing, because it's not equal to respectful or not respectful. People can use whatever words and be respectful. What I've noticed is it's the WAY you say things, words don't matter as much. Maybe it depends on where your from, your upbringing, what your parents taught you, your religion, how old you are, what generation you are, etc...

IMO:
It's just a word. Stop being immature and pointing at it going "teehee!"

Anyways, any mods/admins want to weigh in on this?
What's your guys opinions,
and does anyone here truly get offended by "profane" words on here?

I just started to do it after a mod said something to me about it that's all i think it just a word too but i respect this site and i was asked not to so for it's a no biggie. just my 2cents

Too fuckin right man!
Notice how I use it as an extreme modifier in a positive way instead of saying:
I most certainly fully to an absolute maximum extent agree with you!

teehee.

But yea, it is just a word. Having proper words off-limits is completely absurd. We should be focusing our time on killing txtspk when used in inappropriate situations.(like on resumes or in schoolwork, business related things, online bulletin boards, etc)

I've been known to bandy about a few choice words myself, but the difference between using profanity in RL and using on a forum is that there is no way to consider the context and/or audience when it comes to forum postings.

I don't know for sure about you, but I unconsiously filter my use of profanity to suit the crowd/people I'm currently with... I might say the F word 5 times in a single sentence if I was describing a PITA job to one of my mechanic friends, but on the other hand the word would never come up if I was spending an evening with my folks or my in-laws.

As HWC has always been a website which caters to all walks of life, allowing open profanity (especially profanity based on sexual functions / parts) would stand a good chance of offending some of the folks we'd like to attract.

One site I visit is so strict with it's censor that the word competition is partially censored because it has tit in it.

At one time, you couldn't type in the name of a particular cellphone company... problem was, the word (and for the life of me, I can't remember what exact word it was) was a fairly common one in the english language..... ;) (That was for the spambots.....).

They should censor Bell because it is so closely related to words pertaining to fecal matter. :haha:

I didn't realize the F word was filtered on the site. The rule used to be that you don't use it in a thread title, but occasional use in posts was ok.

TBH, my opinion is that it's only used for shock value on a typed message. I find I can express how I really feel without typing swear words. I don't miss it here, I hear it (and use it) all day every day at work.

Edit: And the cell phone company name that was so abused was n0k1a.
