Rants etc.....

I am very happy I got my generator and house hook-up done before this winter, so far, nothing but a few brownouts. We know how this goes, now that I have everything to run the house on a generator, the power won't go out lol.... I hope

how big a generator? how much did it cost to wire in? did you put anything in for voltage regulation? generator power is bad for electronics. I have a customer who had line interactive UPS for all of his servers and office PC's and it burned every single one of them out. not immediately, but within a year of setting up the generator. you can only use online dual conversion with a generator...the replacement bill wasn't nice.

I'd love to have something like that here...but, this house is in such bad repair that I think an electrician would say 'no'.

So I got a fair price for the install because my electrician is a friend of a friend, generator hook up box and the second breaker panel cost me around $600 give or take 50 bucks, also my house breaker panel is wired with a surge protector, but I only use inverter generators with less then 3% THD, since I have a new furnace and new gas water heater, that will not run on dirty generator power. Advised by my electrician to not get a Generac as they break down a lot and require the same amount of maintenance or more, that has to be done by someone like him at an increased cost ( all he did during the Orillia ice storm last winter was run around fixing generac unit that have failed since no one does the maintenance on them ) I can maintain my champion units, plus to replace them is far cheaper.

I put this all together with the help of my electrician. The only things I can't run when on inverter generator power is stove/microwave/dryer, it powers most of the lights/internet/2x fridges/2xfreezers/furnace/hotwater heater/sump pump with a total combined power draw of 26 amps@120v for 3100watts.

I own 2 champion inverter generators ( one was purchased in ice storm last year ) new unit bought for $650 from costco, open frame inverter generator/4250 start/3500 running watts, we tested it all to make sure it ran with no problems. The second used unit is 4500 start/3500 running, only reason I keep the second one is because I had to pay more then I would have liked during ice storm and selling it now for a large loss just seem silly to me when I can keep it and have a backup.

for a total of around $1400 all in. if you focus on jsut power what you need it can be a lot cheaper.

I am so sick of semi drivers. They are the worst drivers in the country without a doubt.

On highway today, pass a semi going up an incline. I'm doing exactly the speed limit. 5 minutes later he passes me. Started in a non passing zone. He is doing maybe 2km an hour faster than me. He doesn't have enough time to pass before oncoming traffic reaches us. He starts signalling like he wants back in my lane. I sure af didn't slow down to let him in. He gets back in to my lane with maybe 2 ft between his trailer and my bumper.

And guess what 1 km up the road, he is doing 80kmh up the next incline. And 5km after that he has to turn off for weight scale.

Not like this is uncommon either. 90% of semi drivers are trash. If I die on the highway, I know it will be caused by a semi. Almost every bear miss I think I've ever had was a semi.

And one of them slammed into a overpass in Surrey BC today. One guy smashed into 6 in US somewhere.

EDIT: this dude

While I'm glad to have income after 2 years of no job. I'm not pleased with the office shitter.
  • Not enough stalls for the afternoon rush in an office of 60 people
  • Ran to 2 other floors to only find stalls that either doesn't flush correctly or looks like someone had a bad reaction to curry or Mexican food
  • Piss on seats

Fucking Boeing again got people killed. TL;DR, "trust me bro, the problem won't affect flight safety."

The public floor of my office has far more stalls, but I suppose there was some retail shops there long ago, most are out of business. All the "restricted" floors only have 2 though which is pretty crazy for the number of people. Thankfully I haven't had to go back... but yeah... they were always a mess... people didn't flush, or it would be clogged and overflowing. Don't know why people have to be so disgusting - I can't imagine their homes are like that?
