The Happy thread!

Been working on trying to get hardware encoding in plex working for the last day. First trying Intel Quick Sync, which ended up being my Dell not supporting it. And then w/ a GTX1050Ti. I don't understand why documentation is so poor for this. Most places say a single line needs to be added to docker config.

I tried to install bare metal to the OS instead of Docker and still couldn't get it to work. So tried Ubuntu Desktop instead of server, no change. But finally found a post on stackoverflow on what I needed to add to docker config to get it to work. And its working finally.

Didn't want to use the 1050Ti at first as it seemed underpowered maybe. But transcoding a 70Mbps BD down to 1080P w/ tonemapping, GPU usage is like 20%.

EDIT: And one more thing. Reinstalling Ubuntu was SO easy. Ignoring all the above troubleshooting. I think I could have restored 90% of my functionality with about 10 commands in the CLI.

Install ZFS. Install Docker. Import my 2 zfs pools. Install Portainer docker container. Then in Portainer copy and paste over my saved configs for rtorrent, sonarr, plex, and jackett. All that is left is just setting up samba/network shares.

this 8" Fire HD (2024) tablet has impressed me some. there is a bit of a learning curve as it doesn't behave like most Android devices, but I am liking how easy it has been to set up for a kid. it's not the fastest as there is enough of a lag to notice when doing anything (hexa core w/3GB), but it's not annoying or anything, especially when you know what you're getting and the price you paid.

I'm impressed enough that I was thinking of grabbing a second just for surfing and reading off the Kindle app, but, it's back to regular price, which it is most definitely not worth. it has convinced me that 8" is the perfect size for a tablet though...so I'll start keeping my eye out on some of the other options out there, like the Aldocube iPlay Mini 70 Ultra...or the Lenovo Legion Tab 3, if it goes on a hot promo (Black Friday is coming up, please Please PLEASE!!!). Also, the low low resolution it has didn't bother me in the least, which was the biggest surprise. I didn't think anything lower than FHD would suffice...I was wrong.

I've been using a Fire HD 8" for reading for a couple of years. It's been fine for that. My teenagers each have one that get heavy Youtube and Netflix use with no issues. I don't really use it for anything else. It's handy when I buy a book through the website and it's downloaded waiting for me when I get home.

As a lower income frugal af dood. I appreciate YT / internet for so much info on how to repair stuff.

I was an idiot and sucked up some water w/ the Miele C3 I paid $50 last year. And it sounds really bad but still functioning. Found YT vid on disasembly and an ifixit guide on how to disassemble the motor and replacing bearings.

Although I haven't been able to get bearings off yet, being able to get this far without worrying about breaking the casing sure helped.

Replacement motor is $200 versus free as I'm 99% sure they are 608ZZ bearings, which I have so many of from 3d printer days.
