Sooo I took the plunge into I7 this is what I built.

i7 920 D0 (stock cooling, stock speed):punk:
ASUS Rampage II GENE
Mushkin REDLINE 3x2gb DDR3-1600 cl 6-8-6-24
Corsair HX1000 PSU
EVGA GTX260 core 216 superclocked
Antec p-182 case with 4x120mm NZXT fan's (blue led)
WD caviar black 1tb
Seagate 7200.12 500GB

Got the MB/CPU/RAM/PSU/1TB/case for $650.00 very gently used from a very good friend!

Let me know what you think,

HOLY PSU. Way overpowered, but hey, nice performing rig your got there!

EDIT: Ohhhh, from a friend. Wicked deal!

nice, but the hx1000 is a bit overkill :haha:

unless you're planning on switching that 260 for a pair of 480's

Very nice and welcome to the I7 Club.....you won't be disappointed ;)

Now.....get yourself a decent Aftermarket Cooler for that DO Chip and enjoy OC'ing that puppy.....3.8Ghz is a cake-walk and many are geting to 4 Ghz with very low Voltage ;)

btw.....you'll get a few Posters jumping on your for running that 1kW....obviously their not reading what you paid for the package

Yeah the 1kw psu is overkill...for now but that is 1 part I will not have to upgrade for a while, I am thinking 2x GTX460's or 2x 5770's,

The previous Owner had this cpu running @ 4.0ghz @ 1.27v so I have that to look forward too.

New Builds

Nice rig, good deal! Yes, the i7 system is a nice enthusiast system! The only thing I would consider changing is what you mentioned, the gpu. Atm you can get a good deal on any # of gpus in the BST. Enjoy the new system and welcome to the i7 club.

In all honesty, the 260 is perfectly fine for the games I play on my lil 20" Only reason I want a new gpu or 2 is simply to get good numbers in bench marks. So not really a priority.

Yeah exactly. My one friend got a good quality 600W in 2004-2005 (don't remember the brand but it's rated higher than most 600W today) and that's lasted him quite a while and for his system, into the future too.
