Vancouver Canucks...

See, I didn't care about Luongo's trade value. The guy is still one of the best goaltenders in the game. All the crap he's been through the last couple of years made him a better team mate and stronger mentally, IMHO. I'm sorry to see him go.

The problem this year isn't/wasn't the goaltenders, it's the lack of scoring and one period a game where they forget how to play defense.

Funny you say that, I personally thought Vancouver was holding on to Luongo simply because of those defensive breakdowns. Without a good experienced goalie backstopping the show, it may be tough.

If Vancouver is in the beginning stages of attempting a rebuild, I like the move. It's better to cut your losses quickly rather than hold onto your core as long as possible and just be a good team rather than a great team. If Vancouver management doesn't make moves on the rest of the core, then I think this trade is ridiculous.

I say this is a Calgary Flames fan whose team held onto their core assets way too long in the hope of another 2004 Stanley Cup run.

I've said the same thing for two years now... Gillis MUST go! He's an impulsive GM that makes major moves based on media scrums because he thinks he's politicking to the city. I challenge anyone to list a single acquisition or trade that Gillis made for the betterment of the Canucks... And drafts don't count as the credit there (what little there is) goes to the scouts.

Trading Luongo was BS. Vancouver fans will just turn around and crucify the next goal tender in line. I don't know why this city can't get their heads out of their a$$es and stop whining about the glory days of McKlean.
* For this that aren't aware, an interesting side note regarding the G we picked up for Luongo; Lack used to be his backup in the Swedish league and aparently they were a killer tandem at that level.

At the end of the day, our issue is scoring. We desperately needed to trade assets for young, vibrant scoring. The twins are awesome, and I'm a huge fan... but we should be grooming talented replacements while the twins are in their transitional years and can coach them. Take 2 years of grooming, and then transition the twins to the second line.

If Kesler wants out, then get him out. I like Kesler, but I don't want any player that doesn't want to be here. So trade him for a RW that can play with the twins. Apparently Pitts was willing to trade us a solid RW and some depth for him, but Gillis held on for a C. Sure... you want to replace Kesler at centre and get some depth, but you won't get that from the teams you're asking. (Should have went for Vaneck while NY was interested)

Personally, I say "f&ck it' to division rivalry concerns and we try to trade Kesler and D depth for young talent with Edmonton. That's a win-win if they'd go for it. Kesler doesn't want to wave his no-trade for Edmonton? Then tell him to stop crying over his hurt ovaries, man the f&ck up, and show us his damn 'A' game! We're not going to get fair value in trade to the cities he wants to go to when he's playing the way he is right now.

GAH! Screw Gillis and his horrible trades... screw the fans for putting retarded pressure on management and then whining like babies when they get Gillis and his gut reactions... and screw every player that b!tches about leaving Vancouver because they don't like playing through the cities mood swings! It rains 250+ days a year here... what do you expect!?

*deep breath* OK I'm done saying what's already been said... /end rant

GO 'NUCKS GO!

I'd like to thank the Canucks for validating the negative things I've been saying about them for the last 2 months. I had the dubious pleasure of attending the game tonight, and the mood was pretty positive for the first couple of periods. Chatter in the concourse was along the lines of "3-0 so far, gee it would be nice to get a couple more and win 5-0 or 5-1".

Instead we let in 3 goals in 4 minutes, 4 in 6 minutes and 6 in 12 minutes. Now I didn't see the best replay angles because I was there, but flying baby jebus you can't leave your goalie in for that even if it's the total lack of defensive play from the rest of the team that caused it.

Something about the team is broken. They'd be better off sending the whole team down to Utica and letting the Comets play their games for the rest of the season because at least the AHL guys would f'ing try!

Yes you are correct there are two things broken with this team. The 1st one being Mike Gillis who is a hockey terrorist in my humble opinion. How do you lose 2 of the best goalies in the NHL for next to nothing... he's a complete retard. They never should have fired the last coach Gillis should have been removed before he caused all the damage. I had high hopes for Torts (entertaining as all hell) but he is no where near the quality of coaching like Alain Vigneault. At least with him behind the bench ya always wondered what he was up to because he was the Cheshire cat.

and the other broken thing would be

Torts... he knows nothing about Canuck hockey and how to play skilled players. He had the same problem with Gaborik (40 goals / year) in New York as he is having with Burrows (25-35 goals/year) Torts has a long history of being terrible with skilled players.

Two Art Ross trophy winners each of them averaging a point a game for the past several years down to .5 points per game. Absolutely no magic with the Sedin's this year and you can only point your finger in one direction. The coach. I've never seen a team completely melt down this badly in years... Obviously anyone can't rule out shitty ownership either.

This is the only thing that has cheered me up since all the bullshit started.

Miller and Vrbata. Excellent start for JB and I'm interested to see where we go from here. Vrbata might be slightly over-paid, but we needed exactly what he has to offer. A solid, right-shot winger with the twins will be a great addition to the roster.

*Edit* Really bummed that we got squeeked out last minute on the Iginla deal, but at least we tried to get him.

Vrbata slightly overpaid? That's like saying Scott Gomez was playing for market value when on the Habs. Vancouver got hosed on that IMO. They got into a bidding war and lost by "winning".
