Eurocom according to Wikipedia is an Canadian company from 1989: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurocom_Corporation

Are their notebooks/laptops worth buying in terms of quality and value. Futureshop (Now Bestbuy) sells them now to the public and according to the BB sales clerk they should not be bought ... they only offer them online and they get a lot of returns of them because they are literally cheap.

Anyone have any opinion on Eurocom? They model I want to buy is this one EUROCOM M4 13.3" Gaming Laptop-Black/Grey (Intel Core i7-4700MQ/1TB HDD/16GB RAM/Windows 7)-English : Gaming Laptops - Best Buy Canada

It comes with a UHD+ screen of 3200x1800 for school. Best Buy sales clerk does not recommend me buying it and go with a Dell/Alienware.

Thanks,
Dave

I'm assuming they sell the dell/alienware ones in store?

I've never heard anything bad about the Eurocom laptops, if anything I'm pretty sure Skymtl has sung their praises in the past, and they'd be on my own short list if I were in the market for a gaming laptop.

I've never heard anything bad about the Eurocom laptops, if anything I'm pretty sure Skymtl has sung their praises in the past, and they'd be on my own short list if I were in the market for a gaming laptop.

The BB sales clerk recommends me paying the premium for Dell/Alienware with similar specs to the laptop I link above. Based on his sales experience, Eurocom notebooks are not on display because they can not compare "compete" with the quality of Dell/Alienware on store shelves. Eurocom has flimsy plastic builds and overall cheap in a bad way. "Just the feel of the Eurocom laptops would tell you they are inferior" according to the BB sales clerk.

Personally, I wouldn't mind "trying out" to see how Eurocom laptops perform. BB has a good return policy and I would love better specs at a lower price point.

But I am buying one in September so I got some researching to do to buy a laptop that can last 4+ years.

HWC has reviewed Eurocom M5 favourably - http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...o-gaming-notebook-review-970m-i7-8gb-ram.html

Another model I had seen mentioned on RFD a couple of months ago (Shark 4) used a Clevo chassis and was very price competitive for the features it offered. I believe it has since raised a bit in price.

As far as I know Eurocom doesn't make their own laptops, so they are going to have really good stuff, and really bad stuff. The only thing to watch for is I believe their laptops only carry 1 year warranty.

Eurocom is a Clevo/Sager reseller which is generally considered one of the best, if not 'the' best laptop manufacturer for high end laptops. With better high end laptops from ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI in the last few years, I think the quality/performance gap has been reduced, but it sounds like your Best buy salesman doesn't know what he's talking about (which is unsurprising). Every model is going to be a bit different, but generally Eurocom's stuff gets high praise.

I'd take it over an Alienware anyday. Truth be told, I'd consider looking at the Asus G series, the MSI gaming notebooks or the Gigabyte P lineup before taking an Alienware (assuming they've continued being the overpriced notebooks they were in the past).

If you decide to go with Eurocom, go to there site, you can configure the laptops, and the selection is FAR greater than BB offers.

Note: Eurocom(like most laptop sellers) charges well above average for RAM/HDD/SSD upgrades. Might be better off buying at the bottom end of those sections, then upgrading yourself for far cheaper.

Linus reviewed a one of them favorably not long ago.

The major advantage that I see to them is that you can take them apart and change parts on most of there models.

Because of my location (Oshawa, Ontario: East GTA), I will opt to buy a BestBuy Eurocom laptop online; a little higher end model system to try out first by next month.
If all goes well I'll use it and upgrade whatever needs upgrading down the road.

Thanks everyone for their input.
Dave
