Did a search but was surprised that the most recent full fledged thread on this appears to be back in 2013 so I figured I'd start a new thread......

Has anybody found one of those miniature keyboard/touchpad devices that works reasonably well? (Example: https://www.amazon.ca/Rii-Wireless-...&qid=1487862307&sr=8-2&keywords=htpc+keyboard ).

I'm still a big fan of the K400, but as is always pointed out, it's a bit bulky for day to day use if one of these mini ones would do the trick.

Must be windows compatible, and my better half doesn't use a smart phone so app remotes are not an option.

edit: This one looks interesting.....

I can't comment on those specific models but I can comment on the form factor.

I used to have one very similar to those when I used to run a Boxee Box. Pic included for comparison. It worked surprising well in that case. I certainly wouldn't want to write any long essays or anything with it but for typing in search terms, password, even entering a short URL etc. it worked pretty well.

The first link you included, not sure about the little touchpad. Moving the mouse with the direction pad is tedious, so if that touchpad worked well it could be much better. If it didn't work well, given it's tiny size, it could be annoying.

Yeah, the second one I linked (and others like it) is where I'm leaning. I'm especially interested in the fact that they have gyros which allow them to perform as an "air mouse" which (if it works) would probably cover 90% of functions.

I've been leaning towards this one, although, I still haven't picked one up yet..

Anyone with any personal experience with it?

I have one, it works well, been using it for a little over a year now and no issues.

It's an air mouse as well, not sure if it works with all OS, I have mine paired with a Minix Android box.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that one. It does claim to be PC compatible.

I have been using the Rii i8 for the last 5 months to run Kodi on my Minix Neo U1. Absolutely love it. Easy to use and very reliable. Works so flawlessly I told my brother to get it as it beats the air mouse 100%. Best purchase I ever made.

I'll look into this one as well, but I'm leaning towards something that has an "air mouse" function because I want to use it on a windows platform which is much more mouse centric than and android OS would be.

I have the first one you linked https://www.amazon.ca/Rii-Wireless-...&qid=1487862307&sr=8-2&keywords=htpc+keyboard and the touch pad works reasonably well, all tho I don't use it very often the whole KB is pretty decent I'd say..
The B.I.L has this one https://www.amazon.ca/Wireless-Hand...8-1&keywords=I8+Mini+Wireless+Keyboardhttp:// and the mouse pad seems a little jittery. both are used on RPI the first one gets used on about anything I need in a pinch.

Can't say anything about the air mouse KB as I have never used them..

I had the Rii Mini one previously and wasn't impressed w/ it.

Moved to a Logitech K400. Even though it doesn't have backlighting it is significantly better.

All the small little keypad/keyboard things are gimmicky junk. I had two before moving to a Logitech keyboard/pad.
