anyone here have a pilots license?

the bit I don't understand is why they haven't put a protective shroud around the props...leaving them open like that is just begging for a lawsuit.


I also hope they have some sort of on cockpit airbag device to hopefully save you if there's a crash...

Much more interested in the big ass blimp. Remote regions could really use something like this. Just imagine a hoist in the cargo hold or just clear a bit of land close to a beach and you can load and unload people and cargo in remote places. Only question is that does it fly high enough to clear mountains because even south to north BC is a pain unless you go at least 22K ft. QC is doing it but still kind of a mess.

yes, the return of hydrogen blimps is quite fascinating. I would like to know how they are mitigating the explosive nature of hydrogen in the event of an event.

Are they actually hydrogen? That article doesn't appear to specifically say that.

EDIT: Actually their website says it is helium. That makes more sense to me.

A blimp like that also seems like it would be a god alternative to things like the ice roads in some regions. While the trucks might still be more cost effective in the dead of winter when the ice bridges are strong when they start melting a blimp like that could continue with low cost higher volume deliveries.

However i'm pretty sure when it is snowing they don't fly most blimps due to the weight and they are super sentive to weather in general so it feels like they would be an semi-unreliable mode of transport further up north except for the middle of summer.

yeh, they won't be able to fly them anywhere that's got issues with wind and stuff.

there was talk awhile back about getting a few up here in Yellowknife for the mines and remote communities but since the shut downs of mine sites the idea of funding from them dried up and remote communities wont be footing the bill.

the high winds is another issue up here in winter it can reach pretty crazy speeds.
